MAINE.

We’ll be at our land in Maine until it gets too cold here & it’s time to winterize. Once you are spending most of your time bundled up indoors & you’re worried about the pipes freezing, it’s time to move on. In the past, this has happened some time in November. While we’re here we won’t be doing much, if any, traveling around checking out new territory, and since we’ll be mostly just hanging out at our land, we are going to condense the Blog to posting several days in one post. Less to talk about & less for you to read. I can hear the cheering already.

NEW BRUNSWICK TO MAINE – BACK IN THE U.S.A.

Day 169 – It was 50 degrees, cloudy & windy at 7:30 a.m. this morning. There’s over 100 sites at this campground & they are full. It was like “Best in Show” this morning with the people out walking their dogs in the field. It was fun watching all of them having so much a good time. It rained most of last night, pretty wet out, but no one seemed to mind.

NEW BRUNSWICK.

Day 168 – This was a nice little campground. It was very quiet last night & we all slept well. At 7:15 this morning it was cloudy out & 42 degrees. We departed All Done RV Camping at 10:25 a.m. Today is the start of the big four-day Canadian Thanksgiving holiday. Thanksgiving itself is celebrated on Monday. We had made a reservation for the campground in St. Andrews for tonight. They said they expected to be full up for the weekend, so we considered ourselves lucky to get a site.

On the drive to St. Andrews, the fall colors were bright for the first half of the trip, similar to yesterday. Then there were less deciduous trees & more evergreen trees; it was looking a lot more like Maine, There were some fairly strong wind gusts during the drive; it remained mostly cloudy. The high today was 61 degrees. We hadn’t seen that kind of warmth for awhile.

We arrived at the Kiwanis Club Oceanfront Campground at 12:50 p.m. after stopping for gas. This will be our last Canadian gas expenditure for awhile. U.S. prices for gasoline should be much better, with or without the advantage of the exchange rate from U.S. to Canadian dollars. We stayed here in May, our first nights after leaving Maine. They had just opened for the 2019 season & weren’t very crowded. It was windy & cold. This time at the campground, there was a line-up at the registration building – RV’s galore – a parade of fancy vehicles. Eventually, we checked in & were directed to site #8. This turned out to be a great campsite with a very nice Ocean view. Throughout the day we watched RV after Trailer after Van, most of them quite large, arrive & take a spot. We had no doubt this campground would be full for the holiday Thanksgiving weekend. This must be the way it is at large, independent campgrounds offering full hook-ups during the summer months. Since we always stay at State Parks or Provincial Parks if possible, we miss out on this parade. The campsites are fairly close together. Almost all of our neighbors have dogs & we are enjoying watching the various owners & dogs playing in the area in front of this row of RV’s. The Thanksgiving holiday in Canada must be a really big deal; there are lots of people here.

We leave tomorrow for our return to the United States, with some apprehension about Customs. We’ve heard horror stories, but so far, we’ve had no problem. We have used all our drugs & alcohol & given away our guns in advance (ho ho ho!) and are carrying no fresh vegetables (as if they exist in Newfoundland anyway). We should be fine.

NOVA SCOTIA.

Day 166 – At 7:45 a.m. it was 41 degrees & sunny. Today we’ll be going from this campground in Nova Scotia to a different one in NS. But first we must get the girls some new kitty litter. We brought five 40-pound bags of their favorite clumping, non-scented litter with us for this trip. But we ran out in Newfoundland & could not find their favorite kind anywhere. We had to buy a bag of the standard, perfumed litter to get us thru until Nova Scotia where they had Petsmart stores. Granted, our cats are spoiled, but we had to agree with them – that perfumed litter was difficult to take in a space as small as an RV. We spent over an hour this morning driving to the closest Petsmart & back to the campground. We are all happy now.

NEWFOUNDLAND TO  NOVA SCOTIA.

Day 165 – We were not looking forward to leaving Newfoundland. It’s been an amazing experience. If there’s one thing we’ve learned with this RV traveling, it would that the weather controls everything. This certainly held true in Newfoundland & Labrador! We picked a decent day to travel by ferry to Nova Scotia. That was done in advance because you have to make reservations. We lucked out that the conditions were good on our travel day. When we crossed over from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland last May, it was very cold, windy & foggy. This time we could see outside the windows, and weather conditions were much better.

OUR LAST FULL DAY IN NEWFOUNDLAND.

Day 164 – It rained during the night; it was 52 degrees at 7:45 a.m., much warmer than it has been. We made a run into Stephenville this morning for a few items at the grocery store. We’ll be traveling the next several days, going from Newfoundland to Maine, and won’t have any  time for grocery shopping. Back at the RV, we packed up & got ready to leave for our last overnight stop before getting on the ferry for Nova Scotia.

NEWFOUNDLAND – SNOW.

Day 162 – It rained again during the night & with the cold temperatures, we knew that meant more snow on the mountains this morning.  It was 34 degrees, raining with some wind, at 7:15 a.m. We lost electricity last night; the night before they’d lost electricity in Rocky Harbour. We left the Gros Morne/Norris Point KOA Campground at 10:50 this morning, heading south on Route 430.

NEWFOUNDLAND – LAST DAY AT GROS MORNE.

Day 161 – It was 33 degrees this morning but it felt colder than that when we woke up – we’d run out of propane during the night & it got quite cold in the RV.  Rob disconnected that external tank & hooked up the RV propane, and we heated it up as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, Gracie & Pixie cuddled together on a heated pad.
