HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GAYLE. WE HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT DAY!
Day 140 – We looked at the blog this morning to see what we were doing a year ago today. Turned out it was one of our favorite days ever. The California Redwoods. And we thought the trees here were large! Back in Maine, 43 degrees at 8:15 this morning, cloudy & wet from last night’s rain.
Day 139 – Cloudy, 44 degrees, a little wind at 8 a.m. this morning. Rob sat out with his coffee at the new Harbor View pad. He saw three Buffleheads & the Kingfisher. It was nice that it wasn’t so cold & windy this morning. A warming trend would be nice.
Day 138 – We were nervous during the night about the wind & the potential for trees to come down. It’s pitch black at night unless it’s clear out with a full moon. The forecast was for 25 MPH sustained winds with gusts to 50 MPH. I woke up around 1 a.m. The wind was howling & it was raining hard. The power hadn’t come back up. We were getting heat from propane, so the lack of electricity was not an issue in that respect, but the kitties had lost their warm electric pads & were awake and unhappy. Except for Luna who was asleep under the covers.
Day 137 – 29 degrees this morning, cloudy, no wind yet. There’s suppposedly a Nor’Easter headed our way, hitting home in NY with very heavy wind & rain, then eventually moving on to us here. Thank you, Carol & Willie, for the weather updates! Here on the coast we should get rain & wind, not snow. But most of northern interior Maine may see snow.
Day 136 – Clear sky, sunny, 30 degrees at 8 a.m. A low of 27 degrees last night. The wind increased during the day. With the sun shining, it didn’t look cold at all – until you stepped out the door! Rob brought the pumpkin we’d bought indoors so it would thaw out enough that we could carve it.
Day 135 – Rain, wind & light snow last night, low of 31 degrees. We didn’t even know it had snowed until we got to the head of our driveway this morning at 9:30 & saw the snow on the ground. Today was Machias day for food & laundry.
Monday, Day 132 – Windy, 30 degrees, mostly sunny, 7:50 a.m. The water’s moving rapidly in the Harbor with the wind. No sign of the lobster boats. Rob went out with his coffee, took a walk around, came back in with his hands frozen. I know because he had to put them on my neck to show me how cold it was.
Day 131 – Cold & 38 degrees at 7:45 a.m. Windy. Rob wore his new jacket outside & was able to sit out with his coffee without freezing. Partly cloudy, more sun yesterday than today.
Day 130 – Still windy, 20 MPH winds expected today, 38 degrees this morning. There were very dark clouds rolling in when we left for more antiques shopping. It took a long time for our feet to get warm in the car. Around Lubec, the fall colors are mostly past peak with the wind blowing the leaves off the trees. On the way north on Route 1, there are still some pretty colors.
Day 129 – More snow flurries blowing by in the wind late yesterday afternoon. Windy & cold this morning, 35 degrees. Rob needs a warmer jacket if he’s gonna sit outside in the mornings. These days it’s just been a quick walk out & back with his coffee. Got some stuff to do in town today, so we bundled up & headed out. We had a very nice, busy day.
