GETTING READY FOR CANADA.

Day 231 – We spent today preparing for 4 months in Canada. Checked our reservations, got the paperwork for both us and the cats together, put our U.S. maps/info away and brought out the Canadian maps/info, baked a loaf of bread and also prepared a loaf for garlic bread and put it in the freezer, Rob prepared the vehicles, oiled the bikes & replaced his tires, got some things ready to mail from the U.S. tomorrow morning, Rob rebalanced some of the heavier items we have stored (kitty litter/cases of cat food), paid a few bills, and basically cleared the decks for the next adventures.

A DAY OF DRIVING.

Day 230 – Things looked better this morning, a little breezy, a little sun, NO rain. We got ready to leave for a drive out to Cape Flattery, the most northwestern point in the U.S. The car barely started. You know that sound when the battery is dying? It had been 6 years since we replaced the car battery. Tomorrow is a holiday and everything might be closed. Better do that now. So much for an early start.

Day 229 – It rained last night and all day today. It’s a good thing we went up to the top of Hurricane Ridge when we did – we haven’t seen the top of the mountains since that day. Except for grocery shopping today to stock up for Canada, we just stayed at the RV. We had to find a place for all the groceries, books, and cat food. Our chores are all done now, and we have two more days here. Hoping for good weather…………..

HURRICANE RIDGE, PORT ANGELES, LUNCH, & MORE.

Day 227 – Today we did a lot of driving, familiarizing ourselves with the area, and visited Hurricane Ridge – one of the reasons we came to Port Angeles. We took lots of pictures and the scenery was awesome. But it was cloudy and foggy and there was some rain at times; the pictures would’ve been better if it was a clear, sunny day. The high today was 61 degrees and that was nice!

THE HOH RAINFOREST.

Day 225 – The Hoh Rainforest is probably the most popular and most-visited of the Olympic National Park rainforests. They have a great moss and fern-filled trail which we hiked in the 1980’s during our quick visit to Washington; it was the only rainforest we visited in the Park at that time. This trip we saved it for last and were hoping for perfect weather. Unfortunately, it was foggy and very cloudy today, although it did wait to rain until our drive back to the RV.

THE BOGACHIEL RAINFOREST.

Day 222 – It was supposed to be sunny today and be in the 60’s. Except that it wasn’t. We decided not to go to Hoh Rainforest in the morning when the weather looked bad. After lunch, tired of sitting around doing laundry at the campground, we left to go to Bogachiel Rainforest, a much shorter drive to a much smaller rainforest. Maybe ten minutes inland from the campground, the sun was shining and it was 10 degrees warmer. Surprise!
