Day 168 – This was a nice little campground. It was very quiet last night & we all slept well. At 7:15 this morning it was cloudy out & 42 degrees. We departed All Done RV Camping at 10:25 a.m. Today is the start of the big four-day Canadian Thanksgiving holiday. Thanksgiving itself is celebrated on Monday. We had made a reservation for the campground in St. Andrews for tonight. They said they expected to be full up for the weekend, so we considered ourselves lucky to get a site.

On the drive to St. Andrews, the fall colors were bright for the first half of the trip, similar to yesterday. Then there were less deciduous trees & more evergreen trees; it was looking a lot more like Maine, There were some fairly strong wind gusts during the drive; it remained mostly cloudy. The high today was 61 degrees. We hadn’t seen that kind of warmth for awhile.

We arrived at the Kiwanis Club Oceanfront Campground at 12:50 p.m. after stopping for gas. This will be our last Canadian gas expenditure for awhile. U.S. prices for gasoline should be much better, with or without the advantage of the exchange rate from U.S. to Canadian dollars. We stayed here in May, our first nights after leaving Maine. They had just opened for the 2019 season & weren’t very crowded. It was windy & cold. This time at the campground, there was a line-up at the registration building – RV’s galore – a parade of fancy vehicles. Eventually, we checked in & were directed to site #8. This turned out to be a great campsite with a very nice Ocean view. Throughout the day we watched RV after Trailer after Van, most of them quite large, arrive & take a spot. We had no doubt this campground would be full for the holiday Thanksgiving weekend. This must be the way it is at large, independent campgrounds offering full hook-ups during the summer months. Since we always stay at State Parks or Provincial Parks if possible, we miss out on this parade. The campsites are fairly close together. Almost all of our neighbors have dogs & we are enjoying watching the various owners & dogs playing in the area in front of this row of RV’s. The Thanksgiving holiday in Canada must be a really big deal; there are lots of people here.

We leave tomorrow for our return to the United States, with some apprehension about Customs. We’ve heard horror stories, but so far, we’ve had no problem. We have used all our drugs & alcohol & given away our guns in advance (ho ho ho!) and are carrying no fresh vegetables (as if they exist in Newfoundland anyway). We should be fine.
