Fri., 10/25, Day 182:  Today was cloudy all day but without wind for a change which made the 54-degree high seem warm. I stayed inside off my feet most of the day – not a good day for my knee. Rob worked on his new pathway to get closer to the water during the morning. He moved 20 wheelbarrow loads down the hill to build up the new trail. After lunch in the RV, we both napped – a couple of old folk, hee hee – and then we went out to the tent for the rest of the afternoon. Nothing else new to report. It is supposed to rain tonight, then be nice tomorrow, although the temperatures may be getting colder afterwards.

Sat., 10/26, Day 183:  It was a high of 53 degrees today, 42 degrees when Rob got up at 7:30 this morning. It rained all night, ending about 8 a.m. The sun was out most of the day & there wasn’t much wind. We drove in to Lubec to run a few errands & ended up with a late breakfast at Sally Ann’s Cafe. They serve fairly healthy food. We went there hoping she’d have their really excellent homemade Vegetable Frittata & VOILA, they did! Afterwards, we took a meandering drive to Bucks Harbor & around Machiasport. We found roads we’d never been on before. It was beautiful out; we saw two Bald Eagles.

Sun., 10/27, Day 184:  The high today was only 45 degrees & it was cloudy. This morning it was 32 degrees at 7:45 a.m. It’s getting colder. Most of the people who have places on this road have left for the season. It will get really quiet soon. (Ted & Diane: Bye! We hope everything goes well for you both! Dana: Sorry we missed you this time! Maybe next year? Simon & Kerrin: Have a great year; so wonderful seeing you!) Rob saw a juvenile Bald Eagle fly over the harbor this morning. He worked on the pathways today making several of the switchbacks less steep. It can get precarious when he’s charging downhill with a wheelbarrow full of gravel for the lower level of the trail. Hopefully this leveling of the path will make it safer! Michael came by when he was walking Bella & she led the way, charging around on the trails. Java is still in shock from looking outside & seeing that great, big, beautiful dog sitting out there by her RV!

TRIP #6, MONTH 6, RECAP:  This month we left Newfoundland & came back to the U.S.A.  A month ago we were at the campground in Black Duck Siding, NF, waiting for the almost continual wind & rain to subside. From Black Duck Siding we went north again to the really beautiful scenery of Gros Morne National Park. We were hoping to experience the brilliant fall colors we’d heard so much about. Evidently, from what was said, the previous brutal winter, or the cooler & foggier summer, or the abundant rain & heavy winds, or Hurricane Dorian, or Climate Change, or all of the above, ho ho, prevented the colors from doing much this year. The weather did improve some & we had good days of sightseeing. There was some snow on the mountains, and it was obvious that it wouldn’t be too long before there’d be snow on the ground where we were camping. We made our reservations for our return trip by ferry from Newfoundland to Nova Scotia & took that ferry on October 8. Then we traveled through Nova Scotia to New Brunswick & eventually got back to Maine, where we had no difficulties crossing the border back into the U.S.  We had been in Canada 5 months & 5 days. Culture shock, though – it was some time before we got used to the difference between countries. We have been at our land in Maine for a little over 2 weeks this month. It’s been very nice seeing people from the area & spending time here. The weather has been an improvement from the Newfoundland winds & rain of September and the temperatures have been warmer. (But then again, people in Canada said the weather was not normal for them this year.) It’s been fairly quiet here since the summer season is over & most places have shut down. We’re enjoying our time here until it gets so cold we have to leave. Then it’s back to New York & the end of Trip #6.
