Woke up to heavy rain on Monday. We went in to Machias to do laundry and some grocery shopping (oh, so exciting, LOL). No stopping at the Machias Marketplace nor the Riverside Take-out since both are closed on Mondays. Nothing else going on…..
Month: June 2018
Tuesday, June 12, 2018 (Day 16) thru Sunday, June 24, 2018 (Day 28)
JUNE 14 – GOOD LUCK, GAIL; SO GLAD IT’S ALL GOING BETTER NOW!
JUNE 20 – HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARK T.! WE HOPE IT WAS EXCELLENT!
We really have been lazy! Everything is going well. We are still camping at Cobscook Bay State Park and enjoying every minute of this beautiful place. Our campsite is excellent with a wonderful waterfront view. We’ve spent most of our time outdoors in the screened tent, fully protected from the bugs (which aren’t nearly as bad here where it’s more open from the woods, and the afternoon breezes help to keep them at bay). That’s in comparison to the experience on our land last year around this time.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CATHIE! WISH WE WERE THERE TO HELP YOU CELEBRATE!
Day 15 – We kept a close watch over campers checking out this morning, knowing we had to be out of campsite #7 no later than 11 a.m. (Saturday when we’d taken a drive around the campground, we’d stopped at the Ranger’s Station to check the availability of various sites, and we’ve been checking online getting the status of the reservable sites. None of the sites we wanted were available for the next several weeks at least; those campsites had all been reserved. There were some campsites that were non-reservable and those are first-come, first-served. We were warned that as soon as a camper checks out of a non-reservable campsite, the first person to check in for it at the Ranger’s Station, gets it.)
Saturday, June 9 (Day 13) & Sunday, June 10, 2018 (Day 14)
This is a great campsite & we spent most of the weekend in the screened tent overlooking the Bay. We’ve been reading lots of books. The cats are happy and relaxing, too. The State Park is located on the Cobscook Bay; the campground pamphlet says that the name “Cobscook” comes from the Passamaquoddy Indian word meaning, “boiling tides”. Here, the average tide is 24 feet. The weather has been great, in the upper 60’s and lower 70’s during the day. There are a lot of bugs, but it’s been fairly breezy & the wind picks up in the afternoon. This helps with the bugs.

Day 12 – Since we were on our own land & didn’t have to check out by a particular time, we didn’t leave until 1:55 p.m. It was 58 degrees and partly cloudy. Once we reached Route 1 and headed north, we encountered lots of road work which slowed things down a bit. Still, we reached Cobscook Bay State Park just 25 minutes later at 2:20 p.m.
Friday, June 1 (Day 5) thru Thursday, June 7, 2018 (Day 11)
CONGRATULATIONS BETH & JOHN (June 1, 2018)!
When we’re camping at our land in Maine, often our days are quiet & uneventful (last year when we were here for 5 weeks during the summer, we didn’t blog at all). Rather than just repeat each day’s activities over & over again, we’re condensing some parts of this trip into more days in each post. Days that are pretty routine will just go into one post, and this will hopefully help us to catch up with the blog and to keep up with the posting.

Day 4 – It was 48 degrees and partly cloudy this morning when we got up. We hate to leave; it’s really nice here, but today we are driving to our land, way down east Maine. We haven’t been there since last August. When we left there last, we’d just had work done on the land to put in a new clearing closer to the cliff’s edge overlooking the water. We’d only been able to camp there two nights to try out the new RV pad before we had to leave.

FULL MOON RISING.
Day 3 – It was 57 degrees and sunny at 7:45 a.m., supposed to be much cooler today, plus we’ll be heading farther north along the coast. We’ll be going to Belfast, ME to one of our favorite campgrounds, Moorings Oceanfront RV Resort.
Tuesday, May 29, 2018
Day 2 – Quiet campground this morning, but it must’ve been busy over the weekend! Sunny and 66 degrees when we got up. We had a restful night & the cats did well, too. It’s amazing to us how things have switched – this is home & we all settled right in; the original “home” is now the vacation spot.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!
Day 1 – We went to bed very tired last night after a busy day of packing up most of our remaining belongings, tools, supplies, etc. And we still had all the last-minute packing & chores to do before leaving today. The girls were troopers, none of them offering resistance when we brought them out to the RV. Gracie immediately began playing with her favorite toy; the other three just meandered about checking everything out. When we came out with the final load of stuff, we found two of them already in the bedroom, lying on the bed, ready to hit the road. We departed home at 11:40 a.m. It was cloudy and 62 degrees.
