END OF THIS TRIP.

Day 49 – It rained heavily all night, big puddles around the RV this morning; glad we were on pavement, not dirt.  At 6:45 a.m. it was still raining, 44 degrees; the RV was all fogged up.  We packed up to leave.  Our biggest problem was where to put a year’s supply of wine & spirits, bought yesterday at the NH Outlet.  We have three slide-outs.  They have to be brought in before we can travel.  This makes the RV much smaller.  So the cases of wine were stacked in what little kitchen floor space there was.

BEGINNING THE TRIP HOME.

Day 46 – It rained hard all last night; everything is thoroughly soaked.  At 6:30 a.m. it was 56 degrees & still raining.  We’re very glad we did all the outside chores yesterday!  We departed our land at 8:50, 57 degrees and cloudy; it had stopped raining.  The girls were not thrilled to be on the road.  Many complaints from the back of the RV…..

Day 44 – It was a really cold 29 degrees this morning, but sunny & no wind.  We stayed inside most of the morning.  It got up to 50 degrees today, partly cloudy and no wind, which was nice.

In the afternoon, Rob spent several hours packing up for the trip home, checking the fluids in the vehicles, the tires, etc. while I cooked dinner in advance for a couple of nights.  After our showers we went out to the screened tent for one last sunset over the harbor for this year.  Gorgeous out with the golden light from the setting sun.  We kept warm with the little propane heater.

Day 43 – Around 9:30 last night the lightning & thunder began; this is something we haven’t seen often up here – plenty in NY though.  This morning it was 41 degrees & sunny with some wind gusts.  Breezy, but nothing like the last couple of days when the big, old trees were swaying back and forth.  Rob went out to trim a few trees by his cliff trail where he sits in the mornings, weather permitting. Sooner or later, Paul Bunyan will have to put up his chain saw for the year.

Day 42 – Very windy this morning but 20 degrees warmer than yesterday morning.  Changeable weather.  We’re starting early with the getting-ready-to-leave chores.  Things will need to be winterized, packed up & put away, and it’s forecast to rain for a couple of days beginning Tuesday, so we’ll need to be finished early to beat the rain.  We plan to depart Wednesday morning.  We think the girls will be glad to get home.  Lately they have been a bit cranky & at times, bratty little monsters.  Room to run around will do them some good.  But they won’t like the long drive, so we’ll be stopping several places along the way, taking a little time to get home.  It’s easier on all of us that way.

Day 41 – An anniversary of sorts for us:  16 years ago yesterday, we found this piece of land in Maine for sale; 16 years ago tomorrow, we made an offer on the land.  Since we didn’t drink last night, tonight we will celebrate our “land anniversary” with pizza and Partridgeberry Cocktails (the drink we learned to make last year in Newfoundland).  This weekend’s pizza-fest at the RV will be our last until our return next year to build our cottage.  Now THAT will be a celebration!

Day 40 – It rained all night & was windy; still windy this morning, 52 degrees, and by 10 a.m. the sun was out.  Today after lunch, we’re going to Eastport to get a couple of lobster rope doormats.  We’d bought one earlier in this trip for outside the RV steps.  It worked so well & is so hardy, we’re getting two more for the house in NY.  Also, we have to check at Betty’s Crabmeat to see if they’re open.  We’ll be heading back home in about a week & need to stock up on some local lobster, crab, & scallops.
