Day 40 – It rained all night & was windy; still windy this morning, 52 degrees, and by 10 a.m. the sun was out. Today after lunch, we’re going to Eastport to get a couple of lobster rope doormats. We’d bought one earlier in this trip for outside the RV steps. It worked so well & is so hardy, we’re getting two more for the house in NY. Also, we have to check at Betty’s Crabmeat to see if they’re open. We’ll be heading back home in about a week & need to stock up on some local lobster, crab, & scallops.
Tonight is the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting in NY and we’ll be attending remotely. Last month, they pushed our application forward for public comment at this month’s meeting. The work we plan to have done on the house in NY cannot be started without their approval. Meanwhile, though, we have paving work on our driveway (in NY) scheduled for October 28.
Later – we went to Eastport; it was sunny & pretty out but very windy and fairly cold due to the wind. We stopped at Cobscook Bay State Park on the way to Eastport. The trees were beautiful with fall colors. In Eastport we got our two lobster rope dormats & two other grocery items. We went by Betty’s Crabmeat in Pembroke and discovered she was closed for the season. Therefore, when we got back to Lubec, we stopped at HD & Sons and bought what little crabmeat they had, plus some of the wonderful Cobscook Bay scallops. We still hope to find some more crab, and hopefully some lobster meat, too, before we leave. We checked out the grocery store in Lubec; they had no fresh crab or lobster, but we did get some blueberries and a container of almond milk.

Back at the RV, we found that we did not get a call back from the Town Zoning Board Department in NY. Rob had left a message earlier to try to get information as to how we would be logging on to the WebX meeting tonight. He called again and was told that even though they’d previously said tonight’s meeting would be accessible by phone or computer, it was now going to be in-person attendance only. He explained we were in Maine; they put our section of the agenda off until next month’s meeting anyway. So now we wait another month. (This is typical. We’ve been trying to get this done since June.) If this doesn’t drive us to drinking, nothing will, LOL.
