THE SKY IS CRYING.
Day 48 – It was supposed to begin raining last night but it never happened. At 7 a.m. this morning it was 56 degrees & cloudy. At 8:00 we watched the cows shuffling out to the field to spend the day. These are some contented cows!
We departed Wolfe’s Neck Oceanfront Camping at 11 a.m. after dumping tanks. It was 59 degrees, cloudy & breezy, with light rain. We got gas in south Freeport & got on I-295 off of Route 1 south. We took I-295 S to I-95 S through southern Maine and into New Hampshire. The rain became heavy, torrential at times, with a visibility of just a few feet. The conditions were not good. Luckily, due to the virus I guess, traffic wasn’t too heavy.
Just before the New Hampshire/Massachusetts border we stopped at the New Hampshire Wine & Liquor Outlet. We stop here yearly; the prices can’t be beat. We had our lunches of leftover lobster rolls (what else!) and went to buy a year’s-worth of wine & liquor. Everyone wore a mask, but social distancing was iffy when waiting in line. Hopefully, this was not a “super-spredder”.
We drove south and east from the border, reaching our campground, Salisbury Beach State Reservation in Salisbury, MA at 1:55 p.m. When I tried to make reservations here, they had only two campsites left. As it turned out, it wasn’t because the campground was close to full; it was because they were practicing Socially Distanced Camping, with only every other campsite being occupied. We totally like this idea. There is spacing between your neighbors & more privacy.
It was 58 degrees with light rain. We drove to our campsite, #F016, with electric & water hook-ups, and set up camp. The girls did good this trip, probably with the better, thruway road conditions. Pixie immediately relaxed on the dashboard.
Several years ago we stayed here on the way home from Maine. The campground was full of vintage campers, all in pristine condition. We were here for the annual rally. Turns out this is the timeframe for the rally, but only a few vintage campers are here. Hopefully in the future, they may continue to meet again, when things get better & they can have a successful rally.
We drove to Bob Lobster in Newbury, MA to pick up dinner & tomorrow’s lunch. We’d been to this place before, so we knew the food was excellent. Lobster again? Oh, yeah. Tomorrow we leave for the drive home. We are hoping the rain will have stopped by then; it makes it take much longer when it’s raining. And the scenery is not nearly as nice.
