FROM ST. ANDREWS TO ST. MARTINS, NB

Day 14 – Up at 7:30 a.m., it was 43 degrees and raining. This was a good campground, very scenic, and a great time of year to be here, but we move on today because our ultimate goal is to make it to Newfoundland & Labrador, hopefully early enough to see Iceburgs. We departed St. Andrews at 10:35 a.m., still raining with light wind, 44 degrees.

When looking at the Atlantic Canada map book this morning, I saw that I’d been mistaken.
The well-maintained highway that we’ve been driving on was not the Trans-Canada Highway; it was New Brunswick Route 1. Not a big deal, but to avoid confusion if we look back on these entries, we don’t want to get lost……

We took the 127 out of St. Andrews, got on the well-maintained NB Route 1, and drove to beyond St. John to Highway 111, heading south and east to St. Martins at the end of the road on the Bay of Fundy. This was a small, sleepy town with beautiful scenery. Our campground was overlooking the Bay on a cliff. We arrived at 12:40 p.m. It was 43 degrees with light rain and a fog horn sounding off in the distance.

We made lunch, then unpacked and set up. We were the first campers of the season; they opened today. It didn’t get warmer and the rain continued throughout the day and the evening. We hunkered down as the fog rolled in – almost zero visibility. Tomorrow we explore, weather conditions permitting.

We got Site #34 with a water view almost all the way around us. These are the big tides, and we’re hoping to be able to see lots better tomorrow. We had full hook-ups and no one around us at all until 8:30 at night when two trailers pulled in and parked on the non-water-view side of us. The cost was $39.33 per night, off-season rate and Good Sam Club discount, Canadian currency. Pretty darn good!
