A DREARY RAINY WINDY DAY.

Day 15 – Not much going on today, we’re just hunkered down in the wind and rain. This morning it was 40 degrees; the high today was 47 degrees. We did some paperwork, washed our hair, read our books, and did some prep for leaving tomorrow morning. We’ll be heading inland to a different campground where we’ll find farm lands & rolling hills, and just maybe sun and less wind. Originally we’d wanted to continue up the coast along the Bay of Fundy where the tides rise and fall even more, but those campgrounds weren’t open yet for the summer season.

ST. ANDREWS.

Day 14 – It was cold & blustery with the wind this morning, 42 degrees. It got light out an hour later this morning due to the time change making it noticeably different for us and the kitties. We’ll be thrown off balance again with the time change when we reach Newfoundland. This campground is large with 217 campsites. This time of year there’s only a few sites occupied. They fill up in the summer with the oceanfront campsites and their proximity to town, so for now it’s fairly quiet. There’s more Deer in the campground than people; they are often outside grazing.

GOOD-BYE U.S. – HELLO CANADA.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SUZI BOTTS! WE HOPE IT’S A GOOD ONE.

TRAVEL DAY

From: Our Land, Downeast Maine.

To: Kiwanis Oceanfront Camping, St. Andrews, New Brunswick (NB), Canada.

Day 13 – It was 47 degrees this morning, partly cloudy & breezy. Rob’s time at his morning constitutional was uneventful. He was hoping to see bald eagles before we left for Canada, but there weren’t any. He did see a Bufflehead, though, one of our favorite ducks.

NEW BRUNSWICK.

Day 168 – This was a nice little campground. It was very quiet last night & we all slept well. At 7:15 this morning it was cloudy out & 42 degrees. We departed All Done RV Camping at 10:25 a.m. Today is the start of the big four-day Canadian Thanksgiving holiday. Thanksgiving itself is celebrated on Monday. We had made a reservation for the campground in St. Andrews for tonight. They said they expected to be full up for the weekend, so we considered ourselves lucky to get a site.

On the drive to St. Andrews, the fall colors were bright for the first half of the trip, similar to yesterday. Then there were less deciduous trees & more evergreen trees; it was looking a lot more like Maine, There were some fairly strong wind gusts during the drive; it remained mostly cloudy. The high today was 61 degrees. We hadn’t seen that kind of warmth for awhile.

We arrived at the Kiwanis Club Oceanfront Campground at 12:50 p.m. after stopping for gas. This will be our last Canadian gas expenditure for awhile. U.S. prices for gasoline should be much better, with or without the advantage of the exchange rate from U.S. to Canadian dollars. We stayed here in May, our first nights after leaving Maine. They had just opened for the 2019 season & weren’t very crowded. It was windy & cold. This time at the campground, there was a line-up at the registration building – RV’s galore – a parade of fancy vehicles. Eventually, we checked in & were directed to site #8. This turned out to be a great campsite with a very nice Ocean view. Throughout the day we watched RV after Trailer after Van, most of them quite large, arrive & take a spot. We had no doubt this campground would be full for the holiday Thanksgiving weekend. This must be the way it is at large, independent campgrounds offering full hook-ups during the summer months. Since we always stay at State Parks or Provincial Parks if possible, we miss out on this parade. The campsites are fairly close together. Almost all of our neighbors have dogs & we are enjoying watching the various owners & dogs playing in the area in front of this row of RV’s. The Thanksgiving holiday in Canada must be a really big deal; there are lots of people here.

We leave tomorrow for our return to the United States, with some apprehension about Customs. We’ve heard horror stories, but so far, we’ve had no problem. We have used all our drugs & alcohol & given away our guns in advance (ho ho ho!) and are carrying no fresh vegetables (as if they exist in Newfoundland anyway). We should be fine.

St. ANDREWS & ST. JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK.

Day 13 – We went to bed late last night, still not adjusting to the one-hour time change. This morning it was 38 degrees, breezy & sunny. Rob woke me up at 9:30; I could’ve slept all day! We left at 11 a.m. for an errand in St. Andrews, then off to some exploring with a drive to St. John, a much bigger city further from the U.S. border.

St. ANDREWS, NEW BRUNSWICK.

Day 12 – You’d think we flew to Europe or something; one hour’s time change & we’re all confused. We thought we went to bed early but it was really late & now I thought we were up early & it’s not early. When we get to Newfoundland & Labrador, I think the time changes again. It was 37 degrees this morning, whatever time it was when we got up, windy (which made it feel much colder) and sunny. It rained much of the night.

A NICE SEND-OFF!

Day 11 – Rob really enjoyed his time out on the cliff this morning. It was low tide & quite active, as low tide usually is. Sea Gulls were flying over looking for breakfast, One landed across the Harbor. He’d caught an Eel (the Eel got away), but Rob got pictures. Then there was noise from Ravens above, so he swung the camera around hoping to get some good Raven shots. Surprise! They were chasing a Bald Eagle and he had the camera ready & got great pictures. What a nice send-off as we prepare to leave our land for the summer. Grin. It was 41 degrees at 7:15 a.m. this morning, sunny with a few clouds and breezy.
