MAINE.

Thurs., 10/17, Day 174:  It rained & was windy beginning after midnight with the rain & wind becoming heaviest around 9 a.m. We lost power about that time. The wind & rain decreased during the day. As of 6:30 p.m. tonight, we are still without power as are many people in Maine. The latest word from the power company is that they will be working through the weekend to restore power continuing with the most populated areas first. Makes sense. We are in a low-population area. It’s okay though because we have propane & a generator as back-up. This morning when we got up it was 52 degrees & the temperature really didn’t change during the day. At least it’s not really cold!

Fri., 10/18, Day 175:  The power came back up around 9 p.m. last night. The kitties were glad to have their heated pads back again. It was 47 degrees this morning and still a little windy. Rob sat out on the trail over the water, but it was cold. We went into town to pick up a few groceries (like local fresh lobster) & saw Michael on the road walking Bella on the way home. Also, saw Simon – people were out & about after the day of very stormy weather. The sun came out later but it didn’t warm up much. We got a little rain later in the afternoon; the high today was 52 degrees.

Sat., 10/19, Day 176:  Today was a nice day, lots of sun, but a bit cool with some wind. The temperature was 40 degrees this morning & the high today was 53 degrees. We took half of our lobster bits & made the innards for Lobster Rolls (using our homemade bread instead of the standard roll). Rob worked on the land, one of his favorite things to do. His current project is a little scary (for me to contemplate, anyway) – making a pathway from the cliff to the water. I went out with Suzanne to Lubec. We went shopping in town for gifts for people at a great store – Seventh Stream. They have lots of nice items from Maine. Rob’s mom’s birthday is coming up……..Seventh Stream, locally owned & operated: 37 Water Street, Lubec, ME 04652; (207) 263-5903; www.seventhstream.com.

Sun., 10/20, Day 177:  It was 33 degrees this morning – no wind so it didn’t feel that cold out. Partly cloudy, Rob went out to the cliff’s edge & had his coffee. It’s supposed to be a little warmer today with more sun, so we’re hoping for some tent time later on. Before our lunch of Lobster Rolls, we made a batch of Chocolate Chip Cookies. Then we wanted to use up the other pound of lobster, so we baked up two casseroles of Lobster Mac ‘n Cheese while the lobster was still fresh. Tonight we’re going out with friends for dinner in Lubec. We’ll have the casseroles for dinner the next several nights. Food, food, food – I am finding that spending lots of time indoors, not doing much, leaves one plenty of free time to obsess about food, LOL. Not good for the diet! LOL.
