Day 135 – Rain, wind & light snow last night, low of 31 degrees. We didn’t even know it had snowed until we got to the head of our driveway this morning at 9:30 & saw the snow on the ground. Today was Machias day for food & laundry.

We bundled up & went out to do the chores, bitterly cold with the wind blowing. The sun was shining which helped, but the clouds rolled in later. We stopped at Machias Marketplace for our veggies, bread and scallops. Angie from  Angie’s Everything Nice Bakery  brought in the freshly-baked bread while we were there, still very warm from the oven. We stopped at the health store for a few items, then off to the laundromat; it wasn’t crowded at all. When we got back to the car after doing the laundry, it smelled incredible inside from the bread. I wanted to eat a whole loaf right then! Back to the RV, we had lunch, 1 p.m. windy, 41 degrees. Rob went outside to do some work. Here is a picture of a block of ice that he broke off the chipper/shredder.

1/2″ thick ice from puddle. It’s definitely getting cold! Cliff Haven, ME

A little before 5 p.m., we left to go to Lubec for dinner at Frank’s Dockside with Michael & Suzanne. We met Ted & Diane there. This is the popular local restaurant we went to recently. Got there & they were fully booked & couldn’t fit a party of six. A quandry because the other restaurants right in town had closed for the season or were only open on the weekends this time of year, so we decided to drive to Dragonfly, a newer restaurant outside of town which Rob & I had never been to. We watched a lovely sunset as we approached the restaurant.

Beautiful sunset, but got the picture a little late! Downeast Dragonfly Restaurant, Lubec, ME

We had a good time, all of us getting the Blackened Fish Tacos special & orders of the Truffle Fries to go with them. The Fish Tacos were blackened, enough so that the restaurant got very smoky. Fire engines raced down County Road followed by an ambulance & lots of cars with flashing lights. Did our fish catch on fire? Turned out it was the Lubec Soccer Team coming home. Ah, small-town living! The food & drinks were good-to-okay, the best thing being the fries, the fish was overcooked (in our opinion), but the company was fantastic. Back at the RV, 7:30 p.m., 34 degrees & windy.
