Day 131 – Cold & 38 degrees at 7:45 a.m. Windy. Rob wore his new jacket outside & was able to sit out with his coffee without freezing. Partly cloudy, more sun yesterday than today.
We have talked about when we should pack up & go home if it keeps getting colder. We’ve been here this time of year many times; it has been colder & more windy than what we’d usually experienced. The RV has plenty of insulation but it has single-pane windows. The heater is excellent, but when it’s really cold & stays cold for awhile, moisture & dampness inside the RV becomes an issue even with dehumidifiers. If you have to spend all of your time indoors bundled up, it does get a bit old.
Usually we experience at this time of year, a variety of temperatures & weather conditions which includes some warmer, non-windy days. We keep waiting for that week or two of those days. If it appears that it’s just not gonna happen this year, we won’t be staying much into November. We’d hoped to even make it to Thanksgiving. At this point, determining factors will be when we receive our Absentee Ballots & when our sign will be finished & ready to ship. Most importantly, when will the pipes freeze? Anyway, just thoughts about the weather….
Rob worked outside on the Harbor View Trail before & after lunch. He took down 4 trees from an area closer to the other side of the property. Three of the four were already dead; the live one had blown over, cracking the trunk, was leaning deeply into other healthy trees, and would have to come down sooner or later anyway. He’d already used the other trees he’s cut down to line the trails & mostly fill the area behind the retaining wall at the bottom of the Harbor View Trail. He needed a little more to complete that task.

After taking the usable felled tree trunks down to the wall by wheelbarrow, he completed day 4 of this job, and will be moving on next to bringing the gravel down to finish filling. This is what it looks like now, before the gravel.
Today I was going to do some chipping/shredding of the non-useable tree parts that’ve been piling up. But Rob said he got really chilled outside when working & if he got cold as hard as he works, I knew I didn’t stand a chance of keeping warm. Tomorrow is another day. The wind will have to die down eventually. The high today was 47 degrees, partly sunny, gusty winds.
