KAYAKING WITH LOONS ON A CROWDED LAKE.

Day 32 – One month ago today, we left home in NY to begin this trip. Since then, we’ve driven 1,345 miles in the RV, and we have camped in three States – Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire. We spent 11 days at our land in Maine, and revisited some of our favorite campgrounds. We’ve kayaked at some of our favorites lakes. It was prime bug season but we’ve seen worse. The kitties have done well. And the weather has been excellent overall. One way to beat the heat is go NORTH.

EVER-CHANGING WEATHER & KAYAKING.

Day 31 – It rained most of the night, at times really hard. We slept in, although the girls tried for hours to get us up. It was absolutely gorgeous out at 7:50 a.m., sunny & breezy, 58 degrees. There are bugs here, but not too bad yet – the mosquitoes are just waking up; it’s always worse after a rain. A few campers came in yesterday after us. The campground is maybe half full. According to the reservation signs at the posts at each site, several more are coming in today. Most leave Monday. We have some ATV’rs now, plenty of fishermen, and some canoers/kayakers. A good mix. So far, so good.

NEWFOUNDLAND – GOOD WEATHER!

Day 163 – A beautiful day today, it was 36 degrees with full sun when we got up. Only a little bit of haze over the mountains – this doesn’t happen often, particularly lately. There was frost on the ground, ice on the Honda’s windows, but the sun was out without clouds & heavy winds, that’s all that mattered.

NEWFOUNDLAND – SNOW.

Day 162 – It rained again during the night & with the cold temperatures, we knew that meant more snow on the mountains this morning. It was 34 degrees, raining with some wind, at 7:15 a.m. We lost electricity last night; the night before they’d lost electricity in Rocky Harbour. We left the Gros Morne/Norris Point KOA Campground at 10:50 this morning, heading south on Route 430.

NEWFOUNDLAND – LAST DAY AT GROS MORNE.

Day 161 – It was 33 degrees this morning but it felt colder than that when we woke up – we’d run out of propane during the night & it got quite cold in the RV. Rob disconnected that external tank & hooked up the RV propane, and we heated it up as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, Gracie & Pixie cuddled together on a heated pad.

Day 160 – It rained last night. When it first started we heard sleet when it hit the roof, but it was mostly rain. It was 33 degrees this morning at 8 a.m. A little windy, cloudy, and that made it feel really cold. There was a dusting of snow on the mountains again.

THINKING OF YOU TODAY, GAIL.

Day 159 – 8 a.m. this morning, 38 degrees, cloudy. It rained last night and a little this morning. We did a load of laundry & just hung around the RV until after lunch. The sun peeked out from the clouds. The high today was a big 48 degrees. We went out in search of the fall colors & to visit several places we hadn’t gotten to last time. It snowed last night & the snow was visible on the mountain tops around the lake. There was snow on the mountains when we got here in May. We’ve come full circle.

NEWFOUNDLAND – BACK TO GROS MORNE NATIONAL PARK AGAIN.

Day 158 – It was 39 degrees, cloudy, windy and cold at 7:30 a.m. this morning. We checked the weather forecast & there would be less wind up north, so we decided to go ahead & leave this campground for Gros Morne. This would be a return trip to the area & we were hoping for the fall colors to be peaking about now. We departed Dhoon Lodge & RV Resort at 10:45 a.m. The sun was peeking out & we were hoping it would stay out for some good pictures.

Day 157 – At 7:30 this morning it was 43 degrees and windy. It was very cloudy at first but the sun came out at bit, so we left for some exploring. We had a little rain, lots of wind, plenty of clouds, and a little bit of sun for most of the day – that’s better than no sun at all. The high was a cold & windy 49 degrees.

NEWFOUNDLAND – RAIN & WIND YET AGAIN.

Day 156 – It rained all night long last night & for most of the day today. The wind picked up today becoming fairly windy by late in the day. Pretty nasty day out. We went out after lunch to Stephenville to stock up on groceries at the Dominion Grocery Store. We figured we’d better fill up the refrigerator & pantry while we were near a good store. Later, there probably won’t be one.
