HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARK T.! WISHING YOU A DAY FULL OF CHOCOLATE!

KAYAKING WITH LOONS ON A CROWDED LAKE.

Day 32 – One month ago today, we left home in NY to begin this trip. Since then, we’ve driven 1,345 miles in the RV, and we have camped in three States – Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire. We spent 11 days at our land in Maine, and revisited some of our favorite campgrounds. We’ve kayaked at some of our favorites lakes. It was prime bug season but we’ve seen worse. The kitties have done well. And the weather has been excellent overall. One way to beat the heat is go NORTH.

Back to today, it was 58 degrees when we got up this morning; all people & dogs were quiet. The loons were calling several times during the night. Blue skies and sunlight soon got the fishermen up & out. Some people packed up to go home or to their next stop. We drove down the hill to the place where we could get a signal & posted a couple of days of the Blog, then came back to the campground and launched the kayaks. We had lots of company. Many people were fishing, either on the shore or in boats. A few people just kayaked, most were fishing. There was one family with little kids fishing from the shore. The little kids obviously had lots of experience casting their lines. Father’s Day at the lake. Click any picture below to see a slideshow.

It was less windy today but there were some gusts. Easier paddling. We saw the Bald Eagle as it flew over and landed. Two loons were in the lake again, not paying any attention to all the people. They’re probably accustomed to the human company. They came pretty close to our kayaks.

We came back to the RV for lunch, then went out to the tent. A few more campers left and a few more came in. The changing of the guard. People came back from fishing; hikers came back from walks; the campground was active. The wind picked up in the afternoon. It remained sunny & the high today was slightly above 70 degrees.

Dinner was Halibut Curry Noodle Bowl, very good. After dinner we went back out to the screened tent and people-watched. All the little family dynamics, the women with their roles, the men with theirs. We watched the older couple with the homemade trailer/tent set-up who have been coming here so many years as they went about their business – so adept in the way they functioned. The couple nearest to them with a truck & trailer had visitors arrive, the daughter & little grandchild, who will be staying in their own tent, so happy to see each other, their dog quivering with joy. The two men who took their boat out fishing several times during the day. Everyone so content. Really, really nice, and a really good day.
