TRAVEL DAY

From: East Fork State Park, Bethel/Batavia, Ohio (OH).

To: Forked Run State Park, Reedsville, OH.

Day 389 – We woke up this morning feeling a lot better than yesterday, but still extremely tired. We’d gotten so much sleep in the last 36 hours, and we’d been able to keep stuff in our stomachs (although we still were not the least bit hungry). We very slowly moved towards leaving this campground, figuring it’s the weekend and if we didn’t keep these revised reservations, new ones would probably not be available.

A BUNCH OF SLEEPY-HEADS.

Day 30 – We went to bed early last night and slept in this morning. Yawn. We didn’t do much today, just made a loaf of bread, took a drive around the campground – it’s HUGE, and basically preparing for our trip tomorrow for a week visiting my daughter, Pam. She lives in Louisville, Kentucky. We’ll be staying at the campground we stay at every time we visit, Charlestown State Park in Charlestown, Indiana.

TRAVEL DAY: BRUCETON MILLS, WEST VIRGINIA TO REEDSVILLE, OHIO.

Day 28 – At a little after 7 a.m. it was 34 degrees and sunny. Daylight Savings Time granted us an extra hour. The campground emptied out fairly quickly; the weekend was over. After dumping tanks, we departed McCollum Campground at Coopers Rock State Forest, and once again drove the road which was meant for only one vehicle at a time, yet vehicles were coming in the opposite direction, too. Crazy. It was 10:25 a.m.

CATS GETTING INTO TROUBLE.

Day 231 – Brrr….36 degrees this morning, cloudy. We did find another way to get home rather than taking I-80 east. Since we’d done that route in September, we wanted some new scenery to help with the monotony of the longer drives. An hour shorter & some of it new territory for us  & also definitely more scenic, we took I-90 northeast near the Great Lakes for the remainder of Ohio, into Pennsylvania, then we got on I-86 near the New York border just beyond Erie, PA. Interstate 86 goes southeast through that portion of upstate NY which runs above the state of Pennsylvania. It’s called the Southern Tier Expressway. It goes thru Corning, Jamestown, and at Horseheads & Elmira, it becomes NY Route 17. (We’d been to Corning once several years ago when we went to the Corning Museum of Glass while checking out Ithaca, the Finger Lakes, and Cornell University.) Anyway, that stretch in NY, from Erie, PA to Route 17, was new to us. Although the leaves were not on the trees yet, it was a beautiful drive, running along several different rivers, through the Allegheny Hills & Forest, by farmlands, colorful small towns, and across Lake Chautauqua. Fall must be unbelievable here!

Day 230 – 38 degrees this morning, mostly sunny, windy. We decided not to go to the Amish market because we have a long day ahead of us & it’d be better to get an earlier start. Plus, judging by the Amish horse-drawn buggies going by already, it’s going to be very busy in town because it is Saturday. AND if we get there early enough, we hope (or should I say that I hope)

to stop at M Cellars Winery on the way to our campground. This is the winery we found almost a year ago when exploring northern Ohio near Lake Erie. We were taking pictures of Amish & Mennonite Barn Quilts & following the Covered Bridge Trail thru wine country when we stopped for a wine tasting at one of the many wineries in the area. Well, I need to restock my wine collection for future trips, and since we’re in the area……..

Day 3 – We got up at 7 a.m. again, 62 degrees, humid & cloudy. A restful night; we’d stay here again off-season. We left Geneva State Park at 9:05 but after driving a short distance we realized we’d forgotten to take pictures of our campsite & the campground sign. We turned around and went back to the campground and got a picture of the sign at least. (We like to look back at the campground pictures & knew we’d be kicking ourselves for not doing that.)
