Day 230 – 38 degrees this morning, mostly sunny, windy. We decided not to go to the Amish market because we have a long day ahead of us & it’d be better to get an earlier start. Plus, judging by the Amish horse-drawn buggies going by already, it’s going to be very busy in town because it is Saturday. AND if we get there early enough, we hope (or should I say that I hope)
to stop at M Cellars Winery on the way to our campground. This is the winery we found almost a year ago when exploring northern Ohio near Lake Erie. We were taking pictures of Amish & Mennonite Barn Quilts & following the Covered Bridge Trail thru wine country when we stopped for a wine tasting at one of the many wineries in the area. Well, I need to restock my wine collection for future trips, and since we’re in the area……..

Since we’ve stayed at Shipshewana North Park Campground twice before, I won’t bother with another campground review. We wouldn’t keep coming back if we didn’t like it a lot. After dumping tanks, we departed at 9:55 a.m., 41 degrees and getting more cloudy. Very pretty out with the billowing clouds over the Amish farmlands.

We left Indiana and entered Ohio, heading east on I-80, then I-90. It rained lightly and the sky became dark with dense clouds. We stopped for lunch at a rest stop, then continued to drive straight through to the winery. When we arrived, they were quite crowded, and we remembered that it was Saturday and it was one of the stops on the Wine Trail. We got in and out as quickly as possible with minimal wine tasting, wanting to save time, but we did hit a great sale on their Pinot Noir, $10 per bottle, plus 15% off if you bought a case, and stocked up on other favorites. Oh yeah!
We got to Geneva State Park at 4:05 p.m., 43 degrees and cloudy, cold & windy. We picked site #25. Only 37 campsites were open, the rest of the Park doesn’t open until next month. We keep forgetting that it’s still winter up here since we’ve spent so much time in the south. Even though it is the weekend, very few campsites were occupied. $29 per night, electric hook-ups.

When setting up, one of the slide-outs got stuck partially out & wouldn’t go further; we couldn’t move it all the way out. Luckily, we were able to get it back in all the way flat because you don’t want to be driving the RV with a slide out. If it’s not one thing, it’s something else! We’re glad that we’re not far from home; we just won’t attempt to open it again for the rest of the trip. It just means that the dining room, the oven, stove, & microwave will be further in & that makes the RV more crowded. We can live with that, and we already have an appointment to bring the RV in to the dealership in CT on May 5. This is one more thing they will have to fix. We set up & unpacked, let the girls out, and we made shrimp tacos for dinner. We’ve found that we’re making such good time by driving more hours each day, maybe we can get home a day early. We’ll be looking at maps and the computer to see if we can shorten our route by going a different way, too.
