Day 7 – Another sunny day, 45 degrees at 6:30 in the morning. Rob usually gets up between 6 and 7 since he’s retired, 5:30 when he was working. I am NOT a morning person at home but am having no problem getting up earlier while travelling. Must be because we’re going to bed earlier or maybe it’s just exciting to see what the next day brings? Day 6 – Good Day Sunshine, up at 6:45 a.m., 48 degrees and sunny. There was no wind and it was actually warm enough with the stillness and the sun shining to sit outside with our coffee! It was 60 degrees by 9 a.m., a really beautiful day with a high of 73 degrees in the afternoon. We sat around all day and relaxed. Continue reading

Day 5 – Cold, 27 degrees, but sunny and clear, 6:35 a.m. Got a fairly long drive ahead of us to make it from NJ to NC and have time to set-up at the campground before dark. But I have to wonder whether we should just start this blog all over again with this being the first day of the trip (since we went all the way back home again and started over), or maybe call this Trip 1-B? Day 4 – Up at 5:40 a.m. (26 degrees and clear) and rush to the phone to check on the temperature of the house. Dang! The house is now at 43 degrees and we had set it at 55. Something has definitely gone wrong with the heating system at the house.

House temperature falling to 43 deg. by 6 a.m., followed by a rapid rise back to 55 deg. at 2 p.m. after we got the heating system fixed
Not much choice but to drive back home and see what is going on. That’s right, back home! Oh well, we’re glad this happened at our first stop which is still within reasonable driving distance. Continue reading

Day 3 – It’s weird. Neither of us feel yet like wow, we’re retired. It feels like we are on a one or two week vacation. But what was really strange was when we left the house – knowing we wouldn’t be back home for more than 3 months. Guess it all just needs to settle in……. Continue reading

Day 2 –

Site 54 at G&R Campground in Deleware
6:30 a.m., 38 degrees, light rain. Sat around all morning and relaxed. Cats doing well and completely adjusted already. We had some water in the tanks so we took showers, had our coffee, and sat around reading. Stopped raining and the sun was out by 9 a.m. We headed out to visit Gail, arriving at her house in Easton, MD in the early afternoon with plans to meet up with Chris & Liz, Gail’s son and daughter-in-law, for dinner at the Community Center near Gail’s home. The drive took a little over an hour, Gail looked great when we saw her and said she was feeling better than she had for a long time. Keely, her wonderful dog, was happy to see us, and though getting older and deaf, still had plenty of energy. Chris and Liz came by after Chris got off work and we had dinner. The restaurant at the Facility is very good; we’re very happy Gail gets to live here surrounded by so many of her friends and her family is fairly close by.
The high today in Easton, MD was 46 degrees and it was windy, making it feel like a NY cold day; it was 41 degrees at the campground at 8 p.m. when we got back from Gail’s. We fed the cats, read some more and went to bed early. All is well. Babies are cozy and warm.
Trip 1 – Tuesday, February 14, 2017
Day 1 – Happy Valentine’s Day! Woke up to NO WIND, clear and sunny, 17 degrees. Checked the weather for the forecasts South of us and nothing storm-wise was expected. For some reason, even with all the previous preparations, it took us 4-1/2 hours to be ready to leave. Part of it was the cats refused to cooperate. One by one, as Rob tried to round them up and take them out to the RV, they played hide and seek, disappearing in the most tiny, out-of-the-way crevices for us to find. For weeks their lives had been turned upside down with us rushing around, moving things from the house to the RV, and the change in Rob’s regular schedule which had him working from home with at least one on his lap at all times. Now we dared to up-end them again! Click here “About The Cats” for an introduction to our furry travelling companions . Continue reading

Preparing for a three-month trip was quite a challenge. In the middle of Winter, how do you know the weather will allow you to depart on schedule? You cannot plan ahead by more than a day or two. Most campgrounds desire reservations in advance, some require them. But if you don’t know in advance when you can leave and how far weather conditions will allow you to travel, how can you make a reservation? Continue reading
