Day 21 – It looks like a Dismal Day for the Dismal Swamp. We’re leaving to drive there soon, but are disappointed that it’s so overcast – Dismal Pictures. Anyway, 50 degrees & very cloudy at 7:30 this morning.

Day 20 – It was about 40 degrees this morning at 7:45 a.m., partly cloudy & windy again. When Rob checked things at home, he found the heat wasn’t working & it was 45 degrees in the house. Uh-oh, here we go again. He called the propane delivery company & they sent someone out to look at it. We’d run out of propane, they filled us up (and apologized), and now we’re waiting for the temperature to come back up. Tick-tock.

Day 19 – It was colder last night than it has been here, but bright sun this morning, no clouds, 43 degrees out. We’d like to go kayaking today once it warms up.

Day 18 – It rained all night, the ground is soggy, the water in the pond is high, but the sun is shining & it’s beautiful out. 55 degrees, a little windy at 7:30 a.m., and we’re going out today to see what’s around us. There’s several National Wildlife Refuges in the area.

Day 17 – Yep, still raining, supposed to be a high of 48 degrees with the rain continuing until early tomorrow morning. I’m assuming we won’t be going anywhere today either. That’s okay; we’re plenty comfortable here inside. Plus, Rob made us Espresso which makes for a good start to the day. The girls, three of them, tried to fit on one heating pad. They each have a pad, but I guess that one is better than all the others?

Day 16 – It rained all night & it continued on and off through the morning. At 7:15 a.m. it was 50 degrees out. Nothing to report here, just another day inside but the scenery from the RV is nice, it’s quiet & relaxing, and we’re getting lots of Kindle books read. Tomorrow is supposed to be a steady rain all day, then several days of nice weather. We’ll go out and explore then.

Day 15 – We woke up at 8 a.m. this morning, surprised that we slept that late without kitty interference. All was fine, though, thank goodness. 48 degrees and cloudy. We went grocery shopping this morning since it’s more convenient here than in North Carolina where we plan to visit next.

Day 10 – 6:45 a.m., raining, 55 degrees. Only rained a couple of hours, then just cloudy. Made a huge mound of pancakes this morning – nothing’s better than pancakes when camping. We’re leaving this campground tomorrow for a new experience. Neither of us want to leave; it’s been a wonderful place to stay. Kind of sad – we love it here and would definitely come back this time of year again. And the girls can tell by the activity (packing up) this morning that we’re hitting the road again.

Relaxed all day. Sat outside for hours, beautiful day yet again. The high was 71 degrees, with afternoon sun.
North River Campground, 256 Garrington Island Road, Shawboro, NC 27973, (252) 336-4414 “North River Campground“. Definitely a 5-Star campground. It’s probably great for kids and crowded in the summer; it has all the amenities. But this time of year, it’s perfect for couples or singles wanting peace and quiet. The rates were very low (half price in January and February), the people who work here are very nice and quite helpful, and everything you need is right here. Full hook-ups, the roosters did crow loudly in the mornings, LOL. We will absolutely stay here again, and for a longer period of time. They are surrounded by National Wildlife Refuges, Dismal Swamp and the Outer Banks are only an hour away.

Day 9 – At 6:45 a.m., 45 degrees and cloudy. I was doing stuff inside; Rob took his coffee and book outside for awhile, the birds were making a lot of noise and the kitties were watching them. He came in and said, “the Killdeer are doing the horizontal hokey pokey.” This comment was amusing to me as it brought two images to mind, one of which I won’t go into. But the other one had a line of birds, “you put your right foot in; put your left foot in; put your right foot in and you shake it all about; do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around, that’s what it’s all about”; LOL, never mind, too much fresh air I guess, LOL. Day 8 – Checked the temperature at home when we got up at 6:30 a.m. – 20 degrees, compared to 40 degrees here. Grin. We have no one camping on our side of the lake anymore. Yesterday was a holiday and a couple of trailers departed taking dogs & occupants with them. I must admit that the fat bulldog down the row from us was pretty cute, but the kitties didn’t think so.
The girls are getting their exercise this morning, chasing each other wildly around the RV like it’s the Indianapolis Speedway. We are trying to decide whether to go out for the day, but we are SO enjoying the campground solitude. Maybe tomorrow………….
Yawn. Time for a nap. It’s supposed to be partly cloudy today and a high of 60 degrees. Gonna bake some fish tonight and otherwise do basically NOTHING. Bye for now.
