Day 21 – It looks like a Dismal Day for the Dismal Swamp. We’re leaving to drive there soon, but are disappointed that it’s so overcast – Dismal Pictures. Anyway, 50 degrees & very cloudy at 7:30 this morning.
It remained very cloudy at the campground, so we were surprised when the skies were clear & the sun was shining elsewhere. It turned out to be a beautiful day, reaching 65 degrees, and we took full advantage at Dismal Swamp State Park. The last time we were at Dismal Swamp, we went to the National Wildlife Refuge and drove all the way around the Refuge, which is partly in Virginia and partly in North Carolina. The brochure we got at the Refuge told us a lot about the historical past of this area, and we wrote about it in the Blog. This time we went to the Dismal Swamp State Park, a really nice Park. We ate our lunch & then walked around to check out the area. The Visitor’s Center was nice & they gave us some great camping information. There are wonderful hiking & biking trails plus you can launch a canoe or kayak and paddle the Canal. Since we kayaked that great swamp the other day, we opted to ride the bikes today. We had a great time.

We drove back to the campground & their clouds had dissipated, also. We sat outside by the Lake but as it got later, it got a little windy which made it a bit cold. We went inside, warmed up with our beer & wine, and ordered a pizza from the campground cafe. It was a good day, and a good way to say good-bye to this part of North Carolina.
