HAPPY CAMPING.

Day 105 – We liked it here so much that this morning we checked future availability of this campsite and saw no one was reserving it until January 27, so we grabbed the next two nights, too. The high today was 66 degrees with full sun. We just had a few chores today, not much at all. We spent most of the afternoon sitting outside – didn’t even need the screened tent because there were so few bugs. The girls loved having the windows open and the warm sunlight coming in. We’re all just being lazy!

TRAVEL DAY

From: Tucson Lazydays KOA Resort, Tucson, AZ.

To:Jim Kortsen West Pinal Park, Maricopa, AZ.

Day 104 – We woke up this morning looking forward to getting out of Dodge, or should we say “away from cities and crowds”. At 7:45 a.m. it was 43 degrees (warmer) and partly cloudy with some wind. We watched out the front of the RV as people walking dogs passed by, and one sweet older man with cats in a cat stroller went by a couple of times chanting love songs to the cats to reassure them. So cute. Lots of RVs left, weekend over for them, I guess. Changing of the guard: one leaves and another takes its place.

NEW CAMERA EQUIPMENT, CAT FOOD, TUCSON.

Day 103 – It was colder today than yesterday, it even rained a little while squally winds blew through the campground. Today was another busy day, but once we have spent the time and money to fully stock up again, we should be good for awhile. We had not done major grocery shopping other than the weekly essentials since we left home in October.

TRAVEL DAY

From: Sierra Vista Mobile Home Village & RV Park, Sierra Vista, AZ.

To: Tucson Lazydays KOA Resort, Tucson, AZ.

Day 102 – The low last night was 32 degrees. We got up at 7:15 a.m. and it was sunny. According to the tracking information, our overdue mail (5 packages) were enroute to the Sierra Vista post office. The shipment contained our new camera equipment, so we were nervous that one or more packages would not come (they were due Wednesday p.m.) before we had to leave this campground.

SIERRA VISTA, AZ.

Day 101 – The low last night was 36 degrees. Today the high was 59 degrees. It was partly cloudy. The campground is clean, safe, and offers full hook-ups. It’s a bit noisy at times: highway traffic noise, barking dogs, and kids riding around the camping loop on their bikes, yelling – kids don’t go to school anymore? But, considering how many people camp and live here, it’s really not bad. Tomorrow we drive to a campground a little below Tuscon, a HUGE city. We’ll probably be begging for an opportunity to come back here after that!

TRAVEL DAY

From: Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area, McNeal, AZ.

To: Turquoise Valley Golf & RV Park, Naco, AZ.

Day 98 – Last night we made a loaf of bread. When it was done, it looked like a very large cookie. We forgot the yeast. So, this morning as soon as we got up, Rob started another loaf of bread. This meant we’d be sticking around the campsite until the bread was finished before leaving for our next destination. We hung around, did some trip planning, and finally departed at 11:25 a.m. It was 56 degrees and mostly cloudy with no wind.

EXPLORING THE AREA, DAY 2.

Day 97 – We woke up early this morning before the sun was up, freezing cold. The RV’s propane was empty (we knew it was low but we’d thought it would last all night). It was 47 degrees inside the RV and 23 degrees outside. Rob went outside and using the moon as light, hooked up one of the small, portable propane tanks. Luckily, we’d awakened before the pipes froze. Rob climbed, freezing cold, back into bed. Gracie and Luna joined us under the covers. When we got up, the RV had still not come up to temperature, but was well on its way. After their breakfast, three of the girls cuddled up together on the dashboard, trying to get what little sunlight was coming in at that time. Luna was squeezed on the bottom of the heap by the bulk of Java; Gracie warmed her paws under both of them.

Getting warm! Luna, Java and Gracie

TRAVEL DAY

From: Sunny Flat Campground, Portal, AZ.

To: Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area, McNeal, AZ.

Day 95 – It was 32 degrees this morning, rather than in the 20’s, and it was warming up rapidly because we had sunlight earlier in our campsite. Hmm….do we really want to leave now that it’s getting warmer? Unfortunately, yes, because it’s Friday of a holiday weekend and we have no reservations anywhere (no phone or internet signal; how do you make a reservation?). There’s supposed to be bad weather here tomorrow. We need to find another place to stay, at least for Friday and Saturday nights.
