TRIP PLANNING.

Day 99 – It was 43 degrees this morning and cloudy. We were surprised when it rained on and off throughout the day. Refreshing. The high today was in the low 60’s and it was windy.

We left before 10 a.m. to do some campground scouting. We needed to find a place to stay closer to Sierra Vista, so we could easily pick up our mail at the post office when it comes in General Delivery tomorrow or later in the week. On our way to AZ-92 we drove closer to the wall between Mexico and Arizona and took a couple of pictures.

Our first scouting stop was to check out a boondocking spot at Miller Canyon. We’d heard the road could be rough, so we needed to make sure we could even get the RV in there. Turned out we could barely get the Honda in there – the roads were that bad. Cross that camping experience off our list! Our next stop was a RV Resort off the 92. We never did find that place. Moving on, the next campground was right off the busy highway in downtown Sierra Vista. No thank you. Our last stop before going beyond Sierra Vista to scout was a little ways past the busy business section. In a gated community there was a section for RVs. We stopped in the office and checked availability for Wednesday & Thursday nights. They only had two sites that were not occupied. We reserved one of them and will drive back there tomorrow with the RV.

After booking two nights in Sierra Vista where we’ll be running errands most of the time, we stopped for sandwiches at Jersey Mike’s. Things were less frustrating after ½ a JM sandwich eaten! The clouds today were just amazing as they hung over the mountains. We stopped on the way back to the RV to get several pictures.

It’s been getting more and more difficult to find availabilities at campgrounds. The weekends have been fully booked at the State Parks, and there are only a scattering of weekdays here and there. We are giving up the idea of staying at State Parks for several day in a row for the time being. Most of the private campgrounds are full, too. We spent the afternoon trying to find a place to stay this coming weekend. We finally got a site at a KOA in Tucson – very expensive – and camping in the middle of a large city like that is not our first choice – ever. We also found a campsite for Sunday and Monday at a County Park between Tucson and Phoenix. We need to get away from these cities to go where it’s not so crowded.

Other than the problem finding available campsites, our other issue is that we are getting low on cat food. We’ve found that the stores we’ve come across don’t carry the brands we feed the girls. Today, online & via telephone, we found one place in a city called Green Valley, 112 miles from here. They are setting aside some cans for us and we’ll be picking them up Saturday when we’re closer in distance. This will give us several more weeks until we search again. Hungry girls are not happy girls.
