TRAVEL DAY

From: Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area, McNeal, AZ.

To: Turquoise Valley Golf & RV Park, Naco, AZ.

Day 98 – Last night we made a loaf of bread. When it was done, it looked like a very large cookie. We forgot the yeast. So, this morning as soon as we got up, Rob started another loaf of bread. This meant we’d be sticking around the campsite until the bread was finished before leaving for our next destination. We hung around, did some trip planning, and finally departed at 11:25 a.m. It was 56 degrees and mostly cloudy with no wind.

Our journey was short. We’d scoped out campgrounds a couple of days ago looking for a place where we could get full hook-ups and propane at the same location. Our water tank was almost empty, the other tanks were almost full, and we needed propane in the big RV tank. The roads were familiar since we’d driven them in the Honda recently, so we didn’t take many pictures.

We arrived at Turquoise Valley Golf & RV Park in Naco, AZ at 12:15 p.m. The campground was located near the international border to Mexico. The city of Bisbee, a popular tourist attraction, was not far north of the campground. The sign for the campground said that there was a restaurant. That had closed down a while ago. This was probably something of a resort campground at one time. Most of the campsites were occupied, many of them by seasonal or full-timers. It was the only game in town and the amenities we needed were there. Certainly not fancy, but definitely adequate, we paid for two nights and told them we might stay longer, so they put us at a campsite that wouldn’t be needed for a reservation for a while. They put us on site #89 with water, electric, and sewer hook-ups. We filled up with propane and fresh water, dumped the other tanks, unpacked and set up camp, and had our lunch.

The main reason for moving to this area was that we have our mail and some packages arriving later this week at a post office in Sierra Vista. Tomorrow we’ll be scoping out campgrounds closer to that city. We have other errands to run and Sierra Vista appears to have the stores we will need. Meanwhile, we’re taking care of getting what we need for the RV at this campground before moving on. The high today was 66 degrees with little wind. It was mostly cloudy.
