TRAVEL DAY
From: Sierra Vista Mobile Home Village & RV Park, Sierra Vista, AZ.
To: Tucson Lazydays KOA Resort, Tucson, AZ.
Day 102 – The low last night was 32 degrees. We got up at 7:15 a.m. and it was sunny. According to the tracking information, our overdue mail (5 packages) were enroute to the Sierra Vista post office. The shipment contained our new camera equipment, so we were nervous that one or more packages would not come (they were due Wednesday p.m.) before we had to leave this campground.

Obsessively checking the tracking information, we saw our mail arrived at Sierra Vista at 8 a.m. Rob went to pick it up at 8:30. They said it hadn’t arrived; Rob said the tracking info said that it had; they said they must be still getting it off the truck, you will have to come back after 2 p.m.
We called the manager at the current campground and asked if we could stay later and explained about waiting for the mail. The manager checked and found that someone else was coming in to occupy our campsite at 1:30; we could stay until 1 p.m. We hung around until then, then left to hang out in a mall parking lot until our mail was officially “there” at the post office.
We ate our lunch in the RV. The kitties couldn’t figure out what was going on – they were put into their bedroom traveling place for only 15 minutes, then let out to view a mall parking lot? Is this where we’d be staying next?
To kill time we went to a used bookstore in the mall and hung out there for almost two hours, brought a nice haul of used books back to the RV, then a little before 3 p.m., we went back to the post office. NOW can we get our mail???
The girls were really confused. Are we staying in a post office parking lot? Is this our final destination? Our mail (all five packages) was finally delivered to us. Then we began our real journey of the day at 3:20 p.m. – heading northwest to Tucson. The trip went well for most of the way – roads were in decent condition & traffic wasn’t bad. We were tired and were relieved it wasn’t that far we had to go. We knew we’d be busy all day tomorrow, so we were glad to finally be close to our new campground. As we got closer to Tucson, the traffic increased – work traffic on a Friday, big and busy city, and ahead of us, only a few blocks from our destination, VOILA – a traffic accident, and a rerouting of the traffic.

Sigh. We were so close. Eventually we got to the campground, Tucson Lazydays KOA Resort. This was a fancy RV Resort. We’ve only stayed at this fancy of a campground one other time since we retired. Today we were very happy we were here. It was 4:45 p.m., 65 degrees & sunny.
The reason we’d gotten reservations at this particular park was that we couldn’t find anywhere else that wasn’t full on a Friday/Saturday night timeframe that was just outside of the City. We had things we needed to do in the vicinity and did not want to stay in the middle of Tucson. At almost $75 per night, it was WAY more than we usually pay, but it was worth it. As we pulled in, there was a line of RVs waiting to register. Prime Time on a Friday night close to 5 p.m. But it was like a fancy hotel. Boom, boom, boom, with plenty of experienced staff, they got everyone to their designated campsites very quickly and efficiently. Impressive.

It had been a long day. We unpacked, set up camp, and the girls finally figured out that, yes, this was the campground. Too tired to do much of anything once we settled in, we just had cheese sandwiches for dinner. And this is why this blog post is coming out late. Neither of us wanted to work on it. Zzzzz……..
