Day 375 – We slept in some this morning since for the first time in days, we didn’t have to leave by a certain time for a traveling day. It was 48 degrees and sunny when we got up. It’s quiet and peaceful here; we really like this campground.
To: Lake Wappapello State Park, Ridge Campground, Williamsville, MO.
Day 374 – It’s warming up. At 7 a.m. this morning, it was 35 degrees and sunny. The high today was 68 degrees – a very pleasant day. We departed the Springfield/Route 66 KOA at 9:45 a.m. Our destination today was to be Lake Wappapello State Park near Wappapello, MO. We’ll be there 4 nights, principally to visit Mingo National Wildlife Refuge, one of our favorites.

Day 373 – So cold this morning, 23 degrees at 7 a.m. The traffic was quite noisy last night from the noise off the I-70 thruway. We have one more one-night stopover tonight; then we will stay for four nights at Wappapello State Park and unwind a bit from the traveling daily ritual.

Day 372 – We’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto. Yes, we crossed over the border today from Kansas into Missouri. Moving right along. It was 28 degrees this morning at 7 a.m. The high today was 45 degrees. Brrrr.

To: Salina KOA Holiday Campground, Salina, KS.
Day 371 – It was very cold this morning, 27 degrees. We couldn’t check in to our next campground until 3 p.m., so we just hung around here this morning until the appropriate time to leave. Because it was later, we ate lunch before we left. This fooled the girls, and they were surprised to see we were leaving. We departed Webster State Park, after dumping tanks, at 12:55 p.m. It was 50 degrees and sunny.

Day 370 – We spent the morning hanging out and relaxing in the RV. After lunch we took a drive, first to Nicodemus National Historic Site, and then we drove gravel farm roads around the opposite side of the Reservoir, the side across from our campground.
Day 369 – It wasn’t too windy today, high of 77 degrees, partly sunny. MUCH better than yesterday. We slept in this morning and spent the morning doing some chores, and Rob put the Kansas sticker on our travel map on the RV. After lunch we went out to Kirwin NWR, 40 minutes north of this campground.
From: Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area, West Beed’s Campground, southwest of Valentine, NE.
To: Webster State Park, Hilltop Campground, Stockton, Kansas.
Day 368 – Boy, 4:30 a.m. came too quickly this morning. We dragged ourselves out of bed. It was pitch dark out, but at least it wasn’t windy – yet. We were glad we did the dumping of tanks, throwing out of trash, and adding fresh water last night. A few less things to do. The girls were still sleeping when we got up. Usually, they’re the ones who get us up in the morning – climbing all over us in bed, or jumping from their shelves near the ceiling to the bed, or just running back and forth through the RV like a herd of elephants. When Rob put their food dishes down for them to eat breakfast, they weren’t showing much interest; they still had part of last night’s dinner left.

Day 367 – We had thought about leaving today, but the winds are just too strong. If they are shaking the RV when we’re just sitting here and we have trees and bushes around us for protection, being on the open road would be dangerous. Tomorrow the winds are supposed to be lower in the morning than they were today, then they’ll build back up again. Therefore, to leave tomorrow (we have reservations elsewhere), we’ll have to leave before the sun comes up.
Day 366 – It was cold and very windy today. We didn’t go anywhere, just hunkered down inside the RV. The normally-placid lake was kicking up waves. Even the fishermen didn’t come out; the fish got a day off from hiding from the fishing pole hooks. The temperature struggled to get above 49 degrees all morning.
