TRAVEL DAY

Day 373 – So cold this morning, 23 degrees at 7 a.m. The traffic was quite noisy last night from the noise off the I-70 thruway. We have one more one-night stopover tonight; then we will stay for four nights at Wappapello State Park and unwind a bit from the traveling daily ritual.

We departed the Kansas City east/Oak Grove KOA at 9:40 a.m. It was 35 degrees and sunny. We got gas in the RV, then went a fairly short distance east on Interstate 70 before turning off on Missouri Highway 13 south for most of the rest of our journey. It was mostly rolling hills and farmlands, Cows & Horses, and it was a little more interesting than yesterday’s trip on I-70. We went through several cities. (As we head east, we are seeing more cities and less teeny tiny towns.) When we arrived in Springfield, a large city with lots of shopping malls, we headed west on I-44 a short distance to our destination, the Springfield/Route 66 KOA.

We arrived at 12:45 p.m. It was 47 degrees and sunny. We were directed to our site, #53, a pull-through campsite with full hook-ups. We were in a section of the campground that had older, beautiful trees surrounding each campsite. It was nice. We were about a mile and a half from the interstate (for a change), so no traffic noise. But there were train tracks near the campground. We were hungry for lunch so we let the girlies out first and ate as soon as possible. Then we set up camp.

After lunch we had errands to run, so we took off for the big city of Springfield. First we went to a Honda dealership where Rob got oil and a filter for the Honda. Then we found a store where we could get some batteries for the tire pressure monitoring tool system. We found a great health food grocery store, Natural Grocers. We had seen one of these stores in Oregon and Rob’s cousins had said that they were good stores. We stocked up on everything we needed. They even had beautiful heads of fresh lettuce – imagine that! (Makes us realize how spoiled we are at home!) Last, Rob found some beer he liked (he’s picky) at Walmart, of all things, and then we headed back to the RV for some great leftovers from last night’s Italian food dinner. Tomorrow morning, off we go to south eastern Missouri.
