Hi everyone! We last wrote over a week ago, and we apologize for leaving you up in the air. Things got really hectic. Often when we don’t write for days, it’s because we have no signal at wherever we’re camping, or that we’ve been just plain lazy. This was not the case this time. To all of you who have reached out to see what was happening, thank you! Following is a daily breakdown of what we’ve been doing. Sorry for the delay; I will try not to be too long-winded!
Month: January 2019

Day 37 – Boy, what a storm! High winds & lots of rain last night. With the Palmettos swaying against the RV, it was noisy. 61 degrees this morning at 9 a.m., windy & rain. We slept in. Right now at 3:30 p.m. it is sunny and breezy, gorgeous out. We actually have all the windows and the door open – mid-60’s.

Day 36 – I had another night of the aching knee, and I couldn’t get comfortable. This morning I could barely walk. Rob went off to the Dermatologist in Charleston by himself; we were concerned about how I’d even get down the steps of the RV to get to the car. At 7:40 a.m. it was 56 degrees & cloudy. It’s supposed to rain today & the temperature should only go up.

Day 35 – It was 36 degrees this morning & sunny, still windy. My knee was aching most of the night, and this morning I was unable to put much weight on that leg. I don’t have any idea what I did to it, but unfortunately, no “Gators of the Lowcountry” for us today. Rob has had a bump between his cheek & ear that’s been sore & it’s getting worse – not looking too good right now. So we made doctor’s appointments for tomorrow in Charleston. It looks like we’ll have to go into the big city after all.

Day 34 – It was 29 degrees at 8 a.m., windy & sunny. We packed up & got ready to travel, leaving the Park at 11:20 after waiting in line at the dump station – we weren’t the only ones heading out. We weren’t positive about where we were going to be spending the night. We’d talked about going back to Buck Hall Recreation Area; we’d had a great time there in 2017. The campground is located in Frances Marion National Forest & because of the shutdown, we’d been unable to get any information as to whether the Buck Hall Campground would be open.

Day 33 – It rained hard last night, 55 degrees and windy this morning at 8 a.m. We did a big batch of laundry, picked up a few groceries, and stopped at a Jersey Mike’s to grab a couple of sandwiches for lunch. We hadn’t been to Jersey Mike’s in about a year since there aren’t any near us in Maine or NY. The sandwiches were delicious, fresh and tasty!

Day 32 – Month 2 begins today. I take it back; the people that arrived yesterday afternoon who are camping next to us are not quiet like our other neighbors. They have a dog that barks, growls & squeals at the slightest activity around us. But worse is the woman who shouts, “STOP” or “HEY” at the dog continuously. What a difference when we compare the people on the other side of us who also have a dog! Their dog contentedly lies outside & is obviously quite satisfied with its conditions & environment. Oh well, you can’t win them all. Most of our stay at this State Park has been perfection. Continue reading
RECAP – End of Month 1, Trip #5
We departed home in New York on December 19, 2018. It was 18 degrees, clear & cold that morning. Now, one month later in South Carolina, it is 58 degrees & cloudy this morning. We’ve left 2018 behind & begun 2019 with the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, currently with no end in sight. We’ve traveled from NY, through NJ, PA, DE, MD, VA, NC, & SC. And we’ve traveled 962 miles in the RV during this first month.

Day 31 – We slept in this morning; it was 43 degrees at 8:30 a.m. & partly cloudy. Rob took a long hike along the Sandpiper Pond Nature Trail while I went thru my slow waking-up process. I definitely don’t bounce out of bed in the mornings, raring to go like he does!

Day 30 – At 7:30 a.m. it was 33 degrees, sunny & no wind. Rob took a walk to the Ocean. He said it was a beautiful beach, but there were no birds. He did see plenty of birds at Sandpiper Pond which he passed on the way to the beach. There was frost on the boardwalk.
