Day 78 – We were up by 7:20 a.m., 65 degrees, sunny. Today was the dreaded Laundry Day. After coffee & the necessities, we drove to Presque Isle to Kellie’s Laundromat. Okay, so this may sound crazy, but if you ever need to do laundry & you are near Presquc Isle, Maine, this is the place to go. You never know about laundromats; some can be quite sleezy, but this place was so clean that you could eat off the countertops (but we chose not to). Lots of perfectly working washing machines & dryers to choose from, all spotless & reasonably-priced, and of different sizes. Okay, Laundromat Review done, we returned to the RV at noon. Beautiful out.

Day 77 – Warm last night, it rained a little, but it didn’t help much with the humidity. 65 degrees when we got up, partly cloudy. There is no dump station here & there are no hook-ups, so we found a place where we could dump tanks & refill the fresh water tank, for a $25 fee. It’s only 3 miles north of here. We did those chores first before departing for Easton & the Amish country.

Day 76 – It rained fairly hard most of last night. A bit muddy out this morning. Very cloudy, humid, 65 degrees when we got up. I put together a grocery list while Rob checked into where to go to get a new battery for the RV. The last time we went to start the RV, it was dead – not the internal golf-cart batteries which run the main RV house systems (house batteries), but the chassis battery which is used to start & run the RV engine. It took awhile to get the old battery out of the vehicle, partly because of its awkward position under the middle entrance step, and mostly because this was the original battery installed at Winnebago when she was being built. Of course, our fingers were crossed that it was just the battery that needed replacing, not a much bigger problem that needed to be fixed (like the starter needed to be replaced).

Day 75 – Rob & I were up by 7 a.m. It was 63 degrees and cloudy. There was the normal weekend morning noise of kids & dogs let loose, but we’ve seen worse. Many of the campers left today, end of weekend. Unfortunately, the very loud burper next to us remained. They don’t leave their campsite, all six of them sitting outside, and one guy in particular, is quite loud as he entertains the others. We moved the car, with the kayaks on top, to the side between our two campsites. At least that way we can avoid looking directly at them.

Day 74 – We were up & out by 8:45 a.m., 62 degrees, very overcast. We drove to the Amish store near Eastport. Since we were out early, we encountered many horse-drawn carts taking the Amish people with their fruits & vegetables to their stands and to the farmer’s markets. The oat fields were currently being worked & harvested. A busy time at the farm! The Store was open, YAAA!, and we got a wonderful fresh loaf of Oat Bread. The young woman who packaged our bread told us that we’d get all different kinds of breads on Tuesday’s around 11 a.m. We will go back then for sure. Also, there is a room next to the store that sells Amish-made furniture, some of the nicest chairs & dining room tables I have ever seen. We took the oat bread back to the RV & made our sandwiches for lunch, packed a bag, and headed out for a drive to the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge near Limestone, ME.

Day 73 – Rob got up at 6 & I got up a little before 7 a.m. It was 60 degrees & cloudy. We went to the Ranger’s Station & paid for another 2 nights at this campsite. We plan to stay here for a lot longer, but if we pay for the whole stay in advance & have to leave early, there wouldn’t be any refund. The Ranger told us that only one campsite was left open, and once that was gone they’d be booked solid for the weekend. Soon thereafter they filled that site. So far the people immediately surrounding us have been quiet, but there’s a large party with at least four trucks occupying the campsites across from us & over by two sites. We’ll see how that goes. It is the weekend after all.

Day 72 – We all slept really good last night; it continued raining & the pitter-patter on the roof was soothing. At 6:30 a.m. when Rob got up, it had stopped raining and was 58 degrees. I got up at 7:00. Since we’d finally decided what we were going to do for the next week or so, we talked about putting up the screened tent. Because of where we were parked and the best place to put the tent, we moved the RV over, then put up the tent, blocking us from the trail on one side & the car blocking us from the campsites closest to us.

Day 71 – It’s supposed to rain all day today, and at 6 a.m. it was 59 degrees, but not raining yet. We had paid for two nights when we arrived at this Park, figuring we’d be leaving today and moving north towards Canada. But after driving around all day yesterday & checking out the alternatives for camping, we decided this is the best place for us to stay for now. This morning, we paid for another two nights.

Day 70 – 7 a.m., 56 degrees and sunny. Rob took his bike on a trail that looked initially to be excellent for a good ride, but he had to turn around when it was blocked by large rocks. So he just rode around the campground. That trail was really more for hiking. We packed a lunch & headed out for a long drive, making a loop north to the Canadian border, west, then back south & east to the campground. We’d wanted to see this area, and also to get an overview of the campgrounds & things to do further north.

YOU CAN’T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT.
Day 69 – At 6:15 a.m. it was 53 degrees and clear out. Rob got me up at 7 a.m.; we wanted to get an early start for our trip to Big Eddy. A beautiful day, we packed up, dumped tanks, and headed away from Moosehead Lake at 9:30 a.m.
