Lily Bay State Park

DEER, RAIN, AND GARLIC BREAD.

Day 27 – This particular trip to Lily Bay State Park is really just a stopover between longer campground stays. We’ll only be here one full day (two nights) before moving on tomorrow to another two-night stopover. The eventual longer-term destination will be Coleman State Park in Errol, New Hampshire, followed by another longer stop in Vermont. It was supposed to rain here all day, so we hadn’t planned to do anything outdoors today, just some catching up inside while it rained.

TRAVEL DAY: PRESQUE ISLE, ME TO GREENVILLE, ME.

Day 26 – We went to bed early last night so we’d be sure to get up early this morning. From past experience we know that today’s drive can be long, with rough roads. We’d like to get to our destination, Lily Bay State Park, soon after check-in time before the rain starts. Up at 5:30 a.m. (OMG, is this the time Rob used to get up every single day, Mon. thru Fri., for work?), we didn’t rush but enjoyed a relaxing morning, just ticking off our to-do lists gradually, one thing at a time. Since there was no dump station at Aroostook, we could either dump at an off-site place or dump tanks at our destination, Lily Bay. We chose to hold off till Lily Bay. (Not necessarily the best plan, so we discovered.)

OH SO MUCH WILDLIFE, AND OOOPS!

Day 6 – Another good night’s sleep. Particularly for Luna & Gracie who snuggled in with us beneath the covers. Are they spoiled? Well, we don’t have hook-ups here, therefore they didn’t have their heated pads to sleep on. Yeah, they’re spoiled. It was 44 degrees outside this morning, 58 inside, not that bad, but evidently it made the girls hungry because they gobbled down their breakfast completely in minutes. They think they’re being abused because they can’t have their heated pads. We tell them that cats in Africa are starving, but do they listen? We think they will survive.

Day 84 – Alas, the rain never came. When Rob got up at 6:30 this morning, the wind was howling thru the trees. Then it stopped & became still, 66 degrees. The front was moving through. Gorgeous day today, high 74 degrees, sunny. By 11 a.m., the campground was almost empty. Labor Day Weekend was over.

HAPPY LABOR DAY!

Day 83 – We slept well last night; it was very quiet. This morning Rob got up at 6 a.m. & by 7:00, he was already taking a paddle in his kayak, after having his coffee in a chair right by the water & watching a big frog. It was 65 degrees & partly cloudy. I woke up at 7:10 & when I was making the bed, I looked out the window & saw him leisurely paddling by with such a relaxed smile on his face. I knew I had to get on the move & get out there, too!
