Day 72 – Up and out early to pick Pam up for kayaking; the dogs were happy to see us and wanted to come along. We’d decided to rent a kayak for Pam from Dark Star and kayak from there. She had never been kayaking before but took to it immediately. We went out for several hours on Harrod’s Creek which leads directly to the Ohio River on one side and meanders for 26 miles the other way. We passed by small marinas, nice homes and condos on the creek, and under several bridges where swallows were nesting. We encountered many turtles sunning themselves on rocks and logs. The area was heavily tree’d which kept us nice and cool. Bird-wise we saw Canada geese, a great blue heron and a little blue heron.

Day 71 – More of Louisville begins Week Eleven. On the way to Pam’s we stopped at a little coffee place in Indiana near our campground. I wanted to mention it as a reminder to us to go there whenever we visit Pam – Coffee Crossing – good service, good coffee, and a cinnomon roll with orange cream icing that looked delicious (we didn’t get it but will next time). She wasn’t home yet when we arrived at her house so we visited with the dogs until she got home. They are so cute.

Day 70 – Nice, quiet campground with lots of trees. We hung out in the RV until 11:30 a.m. and then took our first trip driving ourselves to Louisville. It’s a busy city on the Ohio River, and Indiana is on one side of the River with Kentucky on the other side. We had good directions from Pam and didn’t get lost.

Day 69 – We left Babler State Park at 9:05 a.m., (53 degrees & sunny), we were heading for Charlestown, Indiana and a long-awaited visit with my daughter, Pam, who lives in Louisville, Kentucky, about 40 minutes from our campground, Charlestown State Park. We had never met her two dogs (the grandkids), Simone and Ginji, nor had we ever seen her house. So excited. We had driven through KY briefly in 1989 (but she didn’t live there yet) when moving from Southern CA to Poughkeepsie, NY, and remembered the State to be quite beautiful. We were not disappointed in this visit.

Day 68 – More campers had arrived at Babler State Park, oh yeah it’s the weekend, that’s why. We hung out at the campsite and caught up on some things, then left to meet Gayle & Jake at Westinn Kennels. This is where she takes Jake for Agility and Obedience classes, and they have dog shows on some weekends. There are other dog shows in the area, at Purina for example, which has a large facility nearby.

Day 67 – My sister, Gayle, lives in a city outside St. Louis and we’d arranged for her to come to the campground to see the RV and meet the cats. It was around 30 minutes depending on traffic from her home to ours. She’d taken the day off from work so we had the entire day to visit with her, and it was very nice. She looked great and it was wonderful to see her.

Day 66 – We got up at 6:30 a.m., not in a hurry to leave for our next campground because their check in time was 3 p.m. and our drive there was only 3 hours. We made pancakes (camping pancakes are the BEST) and sat around and relaxed. The girls were surprised when we shuttled them off to their bedroom travel area; they’d thought they were safe from driving since it was late when we left. It was easy to get them into the bedroom; they were very La-Ti-Da about it all.

Day 64 – Onward to Missouri as Week Ten begins. We had to get up at 5 a.m. because we had a long drive ahead of us. We left Merrisach Lake at 7:05 a.m., 65 degrees and very foggy. The girls weren’t happy with the long drive and we took several breaks; the window however, fit perfectly and did quite well. Good job, Rob!

Day 63 – We took a morning bike ride because rain was threatening and we wanted to make sure we fit it in. We rode thru the loops of the campground and over to one of the dams built nearby. Our first priority of the day, though, was to find a place to get a large sheet of Plexiglass out here in the middle of almost nowhere. Rob located all the hardware stores/home stores in a 50 mile radius of the campground and started making phone calls. We found a store in Stuttgart, AR, about an hour away. We fed the girls and headed out, traveling through farmlands (rice is a major crop here) on small roads by tiny towns. We discovered that Stuttgart, AR is a decent-sized city and rice is KING.
