Day 72 – Up and out early to pick Pam up for kayaking; the dogs were happy to see us and wanted to come along. We’d decided to rent a kayak for Pam from Dark Star and kayak from there. She had never been kayaking before but took to it immediately. We went out for several hours on Harrod’s Creek which leads directly to the Ohio River on one side and meanders for 26 miles the other way. We passed by small marinas, nice homes and condos on the creek, and under several bridges where swallows were nesting. We encountered many turtles sunning themselves on rocks and logs. The area was heavily tree’d which kept us nice and cool. Bird-wise we saw Canada geese, a great blue heron and a little blue heron.
We had lunch at “Captain’s Quarters”, a ritzy place on the Ohio River, very nice and good food. Then we had to take care of some chores and had Pam direct us to Whole Foods where we happily almost bought out the entire store because it’d been so long since we’d been able to shop in a health store, LOL. Took the food to the RV and managed to fit it into the almost-empty refrigerator, freezer, and pantry. We’d brought a lot of food with us and were just about out of everything. Pam visited with the cats who decided she was okay without the dogs. Hung out a bit then met her friend, Donna, at guess where…..El Mundo, because Pam and Rob wanted the nachos again and I wanted to try the enchiladas baked in mole sauce. Did we get margarita’s and chipotle bean dip again? You betcha. Tonight’s honorable mention goes to the enchiladas and of course to the ever-popular nachos.
We took Pam home and said good-bye to her and the dogs. We made plans to come back and possibly camp together the next time we are headed west. We had a wonderful time. A huge thank you to Pam and to Simone & Ginji for being award-winning entertainment; a big apology to the cats.

Charlestown State Park, 12500 Indiana 62, Charlestown, IN 47111, (812) 256-5600. “http://indianastateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/charlestown-state-park/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=IN&parkId=570044″. We would certainly come back to this campground. It was convenient to Louisville without being in the middle of a busy city. We didn’t have time to bike here but we did drive to the boat launch and saw that there are miles of paved roads within the park which would be great for biking. Some sites are larger than others and most have privacy. There are full hook-up sites with electric, water, and sewer but there aren’t a lot of them, the sites were fully booked, and weren’t as private. The other sites have electric and water/sewer is available in the Park. The electric-only sites were all good to excellent. One thing though, something we hadn’t encountered before, only 1 additional vehicle is permitted at each site, so when Pam visited, she had to leave her car at the parking lot by check-in and walk to our site. No biggee but just for our information next time in case she joins us for camping.
