Day 71 – More of Louisville begins Week Eleven. On the way to Pam’s we stopped at a little coffee place in Indiana near our campground. I wanted to mention it as a reminder to us to go there whenever we visit Pam – Coffee Crossing – good service, good coffee, and a cinnomon roll with orange cream icing that looked delicious (we didn’t get it but will next time). She wasn’t home yet when we arrived at her house so we visited with the dogs until she got home. They are so cute.

Today we went to downtown Louisville, nice but very crowded like most big cities. The main purpose was to see Pam’s horses. No, not real horses. Life sized horse sculptures which she’d  been commissioned to paint using her own designs to portray various assigned subjects. Now I understood the scope of this work, remembering when she’d told me about working on a life-sized horse in her dining room several years ago. These horses were amazing and we’re very proud of her! Sometimes she did the work alone, other times she worked together with an art partner. (These horses were like the painted boats on the corners of some streets in Kingston, NY, but much bigger and more intricate, and one even included an additional sculptural element, 2 koala bears which were made & painted by Pam as well.) This was part of a beautify Louisville program which draws attention to the big racehorsing presence here. Once complete the horses are placed in different locations throughout the City to help promote tourism. We took pictures of 3 of her horses but didn’t have time to see a 4th and will see it next time we visit; it’s subject is Abraham Lincoln (who was born here).

Pam had heard about a new park and we went to check it out, also looking there into kayak rentals and boat launches for Wednesday. She also belongs to a bike club and weather-permitting, they ride their bikes through many of the parks she’s shown us, and on the small, winding country roads in Kentucky and Indiana. This area is beautiful and there really is lots to do.

We stopped off at the houses of two of Pam’s friends. One was not home but Pam showed us her lovely home and grounds from the outside, and we met the other friend, Donna, who is the sister of Valerie who joined us for pizza the first night. They, too, have a really beautiful home.

Back to El Mundo for dinner. Rob and Pam were craving the nachos and I wanted to try the fajitas. We sat outside on the patio again, had the margarita’s and chipotle bean dip, and split our dinners again 3 ways. Everything was excellent but tonight honorable mention goes to the Shrimp Fajitas – fantastic. Tomorrow is kayak day and we’ve planned to get an earlier start; supposed to be mid to upper 80’s and humid, so earlier is better to beat the heat.
