Day 66 – We got up at 6:30 a.m., not in a hurry to leave for our next campground because their check in time was 3 p.m. and our drive there was only 3 hours. We made pancakes (camping pancakes are the BEST) and sat around and relaxed. The girls were surprised when we shuttled them off to their bedroom travel area; they’d thought they were safe from driving since it was late when we left. It was easy to get them into the bedroom; they were very La-Ti-Da about it all.
Departed Montauk at 12:10 p.m., heavy rain, 80 degrees. The GPS tried to direct us out the way we came in on the narrow dirt road, which by now would’ve been flooded; we refused to listen and found our own way out, heading north & east on paved roads. As we got closer to the St. Louis area, we were back on busy roads & thruways. We arrived at the Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park in Wildwood, MO at 3:10 p.m., 78 degrees, cloudy & humid. This is a large, beautiful Park in a nice, hilly area with windy roads; we were in Site #4, electric hook-up only & we filled up with water before setting up & unpacking. It continued to rain on & off throughout the rest of the day. There were very few people camping at the Park. We saw on the cell phone that flood warnings had been issued for the Park we’d just left.
