Day 69 – We left Babler State Park at 9:05 a.m., (53 degrees & sunny), we were heading for Charlestown, Indiana and a long-awaited visit with my daughter, Pam, who lives in Louisville, Kentucky, about 40 minutes from our campground, Charlestown State Park. We had never met her two dogs (the grandkids), Simone and Ginji, nor had we ever seen her house. So excited. We had driven through KY briefly in 1989 (but she didn’t live there yet) when moving from Southern CA to Poughkeepsie, NY, and remembered the State to be quite beautiful. We were not disappointed in this visit.
We hadn’t taken into account the fact that we were moving from Central Standard Time to Eastern Standard Time, and surprise, surprise, we should have left an hour earlier to arrive around 3 p.m. at check in time. We got to our destination at 3:50 and Pam & the grandkids, ho ho, arrived shortly thereafter. The dogs are rescue dogs & they are well-behaved (Pam may not agree) and adorable. Our cats, who’ve never been around dogs, wondered why these strange things had so much energy, and promptly hid under the couch. Pam came inside, got a tour of the RV, and watched us as we finished unpacking. Said cats never did come out to say “hi”.
Backtracking here, got ahead of myself: When we left Missouri after driving thru St. Louis, we headed East into Illinois, continuing East on Route 64 into Indiana and on to Charletown, IN which is just over the Ohio River from Louisville, KY. It was a fairly long drive but as we approached the Kentucky/Indiana border, the scenery was really nice.
Our campground was great, we had Site #151. There were very few campers staying there and this remained thoughout our visit, mostly because they were week days, I’m sure. Also, we had electric only; it was busy in the full hook-up section of the Park. 70 degrees, partly cloudy and windy.
We followed Pam to her house in Louisville; it was almost dark when we got there so we saved the picture-taking for the next day. We loved her neighborhood & her home in particular. She has done so much work to fix up the yard & keep the house in good shape, and we saw that as we had the tour. Her friend, Valerie, arrived soon after we got there. We’d never met her but had heard so many good things about her & her family. We went with Valerie and Pam to a local pizza place called “Impellizzeri’s” and it was some of the best pizza we’ve ever had. HIGHLY recommend this place if you find yourself in the Louisville area! Had a great time getting to know Valerie and seeing Pam again. We got back to the campground late and the girls were mad at us, but we told them that this is the way it would be for several days and we’d make it up to them soon.
