MINGO NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE, Day 2.
Day 74 – 40 degrees at 7 a.m. this morning, mostly sunny. On the way to Mingo NWR, we checked the whole campground. It’s only us and one other trailer. Quiet! They have several cabins; no one was camping in them but they looked nice, each with a porch overlooking Lake Wappapello. When we arrived here last Friday (not that long ago), there was no sign of Spring. Today there were some trees & flowers blooming.
Day 73 – We have this entire campground loop to ourselves, maybe the entire campground, we haven’t checked. The weekend is over. The only noise last night was some thunder in the distance. The forecasted thunderstorms never reached us, though; just a little lightning & some rain. It was 48 degrees when we got up. Today was a day of chores.
A DAY OFF.
Day 72 – Well, we know it’s weird, but even if you are retired & traveling around the country, you do need a day off. A day to do absolutely nothing at the RV. A day to be with the kitties. A day with no phone calls, no pictures to take & post, no driving to do. A day with no place you have to be at a specific time. Today was that kind of day.
MINGO NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE, Day 1.
Day 71 – It was 42 degrees this morning, partly cloudy. Only a few campers had come into the campground so far for the weekend. We left for Mingo National Wildlife Refuge at close to 11 a.m. We stopped by the NWR Headquarters/Visitor’s Center first. Since there had been so much flooding and road closures at our previous Refuges, we wanted to make sure we knew what roads were open. NO road closures at all! But we were between seasons, so not lots happening this time of year.

Day 70 – We have a little shorter drive today, so we didn’t rush to get out early. We departed Reelfoot Lake at 10:30 a.m. It was 52 degrees & sunny, a beautiful day. A crop duster was flying over the farmlands. There was a flood warning for the next six days at the northwest part of the Lake, near where we were camping. The girls were not thrilled to be travelling; they whined a bit, then settled down.

Day 217 – We were up and on the road at 10 a.m. this morning after dumping tanks. It was 41 degrees, cloudy, with some wind. We don’t really have a definite plan as to when we’ll stop & where we’ll spend the night. We just entered Elkhart, Indiana in the GPS & headed out, figuring we’d stop when we were tired of driving.

MINGO, Day 3.
Day 216 – It had stopped raining this morning when we got up. It was very cloudy, breezy, and 58 degrees. It still looked like it was going to rain any minute, but the forecast was saying there would be no rain. We decided to go back to Mingo NWR one more time and take our chances with the weather.
Day 215 – This morning it was very cloudy, warm & humid. We’re supposed to get strong thunderstorms today and tonight; a front is coming through. The wind picked up. We decided to stay at the campground today.

Day 213 – It was refreshing this morning to get up and to find that it wasn’t so cold out. (The outdoor thermometer was permanently stuck so it’s been retired; we’re just going with how it feels until we get a new one.) It feels like this large Park is all our own since we don’t see a soul. So quiet & peaceful. The cats are loving it, too. But as the weekend approaches, there will be more folks here. We will survive, LOL.

Day 188 – Saint Patrick’s Day is a really big deal in St. Louis – big parades, everyone in green, parties & celebrations – we’d been warned about the possibilities of traffic problems, so we went around the City & it worked out well. We were starting our trek towards Louisville, KY.
