Day 58 – It’s 9:30 a.m. & pouring down rain. Thunder has Java, the scaredist kitty, scattering for her hiding place under the chair. The weather forecast changed completely, though, from all-night rain last night plus all-day rain today to just an hour’s rain from 9 to 10 (right now). Judging from the amount of rain coming down, the entire long storm previously forecasted has gathered into one heavy, short storm! Rob got up at 6:30; it was cloudy & humid & 67 degrees. He took a long bike ride – well, it was mostly a bike ride, but the “Moose Corridor Trail” was not maintained, muddy, & rocky, suited for moose but not completely suited for biking. The rain had started & he arrived back at the RV soaking wet. I thought about tossing him out with the garbage, but then determined he was not a wet rat, but Rob!

Day 57 – We were up by 7:30 a.m., 66 degrees, partly sunny, humid but not like yesterday. We’d intended to go out this morning to drive all the way around Rangeley Lake to see what was in the area. We wanted to get an approximate idea how long we’d be here before we paid for more nights camping here. The Lake is huge, and larger lakes can get very rough with wind, too rough for our kayaking. The campground is fairly full, and will be completely full by Friday & Saturday nights. So we may want to move on, sooner rather than later…….

Day 56 – Rain and a thunderstorm came through last night. Muddy out, 66 degrees & humid at 8:30 a.m. We packed up & got ready to leave. Maybe at our next campground we’ll have an internet connection and can post the Blog, and a cell phone signal so we won’t have to drive somewhere to make a call & check for messages? Just as Rob went outside to take down the tent, when I was inside packing up the kitchen, the skies opened up & it poured down rain. Of course, it stopped raining exactly when Rob finished taking down the tent. Rob was soaking wet, as was the tent, when it rains, it pours.

Day 55 – 65 degrees this morning and sunny. Rob was up at 6:30 – rambunctious kitties – and I got up at 7:15. We left soon thereafter for the Umbagog Lake National Wildlife Refuge to go kayaking on the Magalloway River.

Day 54 – We got up at 7:15 a.m. & were at the Pond kayaking by 9:15. Low 60’s, partly sunny, and quiet. We beat most of the fisherman out there, but by the time we were pulling out, close to 11 a.m., the people were out in full force. The same two Loons and the one Bald Eagle, plus the Kingfishers, were also out and about,

Day 53 – The girls were lazy this morning & let us sleep in again. It rained fairly hard all night, continuing till about noon. 60 degrees when we got up. Kinda muddy out, puddles around the RV, quiet in the campground. Several more campsites were filled in spite of the weather, which kept everyone inside. The kitties continued being lazy.

Day 52 – No more sleeping in for us; the kitties got Rob up at 6:30. Last night it rained lightly for awhile; this morning it’s still overcast & humid, 67 degrees at 7:30 a.m. The Loons were calling this morning, sounding a little like Benedictine Monks chanting, gorgeous. Approaching the weekend, 4 more campsites were filled yesterday. Rob took a bike ride in the hills again, this time going farther.

Day 51 – The girls let us both sleep in & we didn’t get up until 7:45 a.m. It was cloudy, humid, & breezy, 68 degrees. Last night there was a little rain. It looks like there’s a front coming in though. Rob took a bike ride & found it to be very hilly, came back with wobbly knees. The kitties were happily napping as I was drinking my coffee. A Great Blue Heron flew over, loudly squawking.

Day 50 – August in northern NH has been a surprise for us. It’s still the height of Summer, but there are few bugs & the weather isn’t too hot. We didn’t expect to be able to take walks or bike or kayak without bug spray, let alone sit outside with our books. Maybe it would be worse, bug-wise, if we were directly on the water instead of a little walk from the Pond? But whatever, this is pretty nice.

Day 49 – We were awakened by Loons calling from the Pond; a beautifully haunting melody. This would be a great morning wake-up alarm clock sound! There is no internet signal, nor a cell signal here. We will need to check e-mail, texts, and phone messages today when we go out to explore the area. We’re at the top of a hill; you’d think there’d be a signal here – but no.
