A FUNDY DRIVE (AND FOR YOU, CAROL, ROCKS).

Day 18 – This morning a Raven was creating quite a ruckus at a neighboring campsite. Evidently, one of the little kids had left some kind of food in a plastic bag on his little outdoor chair. The Raven was first flying in & out, then getting braver and hopping right up to the campsite and over to the little chair. Then the Raven proceeded to try to get the food out of the bag and off the chair. We got pictures from inside the RV.  It was 37 degrees this morning when we got up, cloudy with light wind. The forecasted weather of heavy rain and winds was supposed to begin around 2 p.m. We set out for a drive by 9 a.m., hoping to beat the weather & be able to check out the scenery.

St. MARTINS TO LOWER (HOPEWELL) CAPE, NB.

Day 17 – Windy and very cloudy this morning, 37 degrees. It was supposed to rain today but as of this morning, that’s moved off a day. Winds are supposed to increase to sustained 24 MPH winds tomorrow; who knows how high the gusts will be. Based on the latest weather update, we’ll travel today & stay several days on the Bay of Fundy near Hopewell Rocks. Just kinda waiting out the wind before moving into Nova Scotia. It’s just not comfortable or safe driving the RV in winds that high. From Nova Scotia we take a ferry to Newfoundland.

ST. MARTINS, NB.

Day 15 – The wind & rain both decreased during the night. The fog rolled in. We couldn’t see much at all outside the RV when we got up. It was 48 degrees. A couple of hours later the fog let up somewhat, and Rob took a walk down to the beach. Other people from the campground had the same idea and later people walked down to the beach with their dogs and/or kids. The tide was going out & it was really amazing to see as more & more beach became accessible. The Bay is like a basin or valley, like a big bowl; when it empties you can see just how high the tide comes in when it’s full.

FROM ST. ANDREWS TO ST. MARTINS, NB

Day 14 – Up at 7:30 a.m., it was 43 degrees and raining. This was a good campground, very scenic, and a great time of year to be here, but we move on today because our ultimate goal is to make it to Newfoundland & Labrador, hopefully early enough to see Iceburgs. We departed St. Andrews at 10:35 a.m., still raining with light wind, 44 degrees.

St. ANDREWS & ST. JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK.

Day 13 – We went to bed late last night, still not adjusting to the one-hour time change. This morning it was 38 degrees, breezy & sunny. Rob woke me up at 9:30; I could’ve slept all day! We left at 11 a.m. for an errand in St. Andrews, then off to some exploring with a drive to St. John, a much bigger city further from the U.S. border.

St. ANDREWS, NEW BRUNSWICK.

Day 12 – You’d think we flew to Europe or something; one hour’s time change & we’re all confused. We thought we went to bed early but it was really late & now I thought we were up early & it’s not early. When we get to Newfoundland & Labrador, I think the time changes again. It was 37 degrees this morning, whatever time it was when we got up, windy (which made it feel much colder) and sunny. It rained much of the night.

A NICE SEND-OFF!

Day 11 – Rob really enjoyed his time out on the cliff this morning. It was low tide & quite active, as low tide usually is. Sea Gulls were flying over looking for breakfast, One landed across the Harbor. He’d caught an Eel (the Eel got away), but Rob got pictures. Then there was noise from Ravens above, so he swung the camera around hoping to get some good Raven shots. Surprise! They were chasing a Bald Eagle and he had the camera ready & got great pictures. What a nice send-off as we prepare to leave our land for the summer. Grin. It was 41 degrees at 7:15 a.m. this morning, sunny with a few clouds and breezy.

LAST DAY IN MAINE FOR A WHILE?

Day 10 – Tomorrow we’re gonna attempt to cross over to Canada, and be there for the summer. Hopefully. We had wanted to do this trip last year but hadn’t researched properly, so we found at the last minute we didn’t plan well for the border crossing requirements. There’s a limit to what can be brought with you into Canada. This year we are more prepared. We have the proper paperwork for the kitties (and the RV is not stocked full of beer & wine, LOL). Still, it is a the whim of whomever you get to check you out when you reach Customs (from what we’ve heard) and you need to be honest in what you claim. They have on occasion searched vehicles to the point of unloading everything (so we’ve been told). We have nothing to hide, but it would be quite disheartening to see the hours of hard work packing the RV & car to the hilt, and then have to do it all over again, especially since many items are packed in the order in which they will be used. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
