AHOY, MATEY!

Day 125 – Yawn!  Darn noisy last night between the traffic on nearby highways, motorcycles, sirens from police cars, trains passing by, and the continual honking of a car’s burglar alarm. The RV Park itself is pretty nice, but the location is in a busy city. It’s the only game in town and is close to friends & relatives. Its location is excellent for doing all kinds of things in the L.A. & Orange County areas. It’s been a few days, and I’m afraid the cats still aren’t too happy here.  This could be our fault because we tend to go to quiet places without a lot of people, kids, & dogs, and away from traffic noise. Plus they are used to the quiet neighborhood at home. They don’t receive many visitors and in the next several days, they’ll have lots of visitors. We hope they don’t end up with ulcers!

Warmer this morning, 64 degrees & sunny when we left a little after 9 a.m. to meet Ron & family at L.A. Waterfront Cruises, the Whale Watch place in San Pedro. Let me introduce them:  Ron is Rob’s older brother by a almost 2 years.  He works for the Port of Long Beach.  This comes in handy because he can tell us about lots of things we see; we are camping nearby.  His wife is Sophie, a wonderful, positive, and energetic lady.  Their daughter is Maple who is 14 years old, and she’d hate it if she knew I said this but she is adorable, smart, and very talented. They bought a home in Rancho Palos Verdes, not too far from Rob & Ron’s mom, about a year ago. Because of our proximity to them – New York vs. southern California – we haven’t been able to spend a lot of time with them. This day was planned for us all to go whale watching, followed by lunch somewhere, and a visit to our tiny home in the RV Park.

OMG.  We had such a great day!  Whale watching was spectacular. The skies were clear, the smog a distant problem, not ours.  We saw a mother grey whale & her young whale child. (What are they called, whaleletts?)  Followed by incredible dolphin displays – so playful – and so much fun. Then when we least expected it, when we were headed back to port, a young grey whale breeched beside the boat, THREE TIMES. Rob had a field day with the pictures. We’ve been on many whale watching trips in many different locations – this being one of our favorite things to do. This was one of the best experiences we have had. We so wanted Maple in particular to experience the wonder of the open sea. Thank you, Ron, Sophie, & Maple for joining us.

After whale watching, we walked through Port’s O’ Call to Aculpulco Restaurant for lunch. Fun again, good food (thank you Ron & Sophie), and good company. Full stomachs, we walked back to our cars, and they followed us back to the RV Park so they could meet the girls and see our RV.

Maple is so good with the cats. She and Sophie got them to come out of hiding (all except for Java, the big, black, scaredy cat). They got the (hopefully NOT boring) tour of the RV. They were curious how we’re doing this, rightfully so. The cats adjusted, except for Java, and we sat around for a couple of hours, chatting. Really nice day, guys. Thanks so much.

Now it’s after 7 p.m.  Visitors have gone home.  All cats are out of hiding and in their favorite spots in the RV – Gracey is helping Rob pick out the pictures from today’s trip that he’ll use on this blog. All is well. It reached 82 degrees today, a little warm, but a really lovely day.  I will close this day the same way I opened it.  With a big YAWN.
