Happy Birthday, Karen O! We hope you had a wonderful day.

FINAL DAY IN NEWFOUNDLAND (THIS TRIP.)

Day 161 – It was 40 degrees when we got up this morning, NOT worthy of last night’s frost warning. The high temperature today briefly reached 55 degrees – full clouds all day. Our big journey for today was to drop a couple of outgoing items in the box at the local post office, less than a mile from the campground. We had to come back to the RV and nap, it was just so taxing. LOL.

My how time flies! We spent the rest of our last full day in Newfoundland at the campsite. As usual, the predicted warm, sunny day didn’t materialize. Could this be the theme of Trip #10? We are pretty far up north, after all. Maybe we expect too much.

Sarcasm aside, it’s been a very good 4 ½ months in Newfoundland. We are leaving by ferry tomorrow – Channel-Port aux Basques, NL -to- North Sydney, NS. We are scheduled to depart Newfoundland about 11:45 a.m. (Newfoundland time zone), arriving in Nova Scotia about 6 p.m. (Atlantic time zone), almost seven hours. The girls won’t be happy, but we keep telling them that this is their last ferry ride this year. For some reason, this goes in one ear and out the other and doesn’t seem to make a difference.

(In conclusion, we stayed at 30 campgrounds in Newfoundland. In slightly over 20 weeks, that averages out to 4.7 days per campground. Next time we’d like to end up with an average of at least a 1-week stay at each location we choose. Why would we want to come back a third time to the same place? Mostly because its beauty knocks our socks off around every turn in the road. It’s not that expensive compared to many places, it’s definitely not that crowded, the people are so nice, and there’s so much to learn about the history and different lifestyle. And there’s icebergs and whales and islands and moose and red foxes and cliffs and arctic foxes and rocks and snowshoe hares and caribou and mountains and clean air and lakes and incredibly fresh fish and waterfalls and the ocean in its full glory and fjords and it doesn’t get too hot in the summer…….) So, here’s to you, Newfoundland. We hope to see you again in 2 to 3 years.
