BACK TO THE CODROY VALLEY.

TRAVEL DAY

From: Dhoon Lodge & RV Resort, Black Duck Siding, NL.

To:Grand Codroy RV/Tent Camping, Doyles, NL.

Day 160 – Last night we had a freeze warning predicting the possibility of frost, protect your crops and all that. We were surprised to find the low last night was 33.8 degrees. It’s almost October; in 2019 when we were here, it snowed in early October.

Cumulative travels in the RV and car in Newfoundland from 05/16/2023 to 09/26/2023, 9,191 miles
Cumulative travels in the RV from 04/20/2023 to 09/26/2023 4,065 miles, 62827-66892

We had full hook-ups, so Rob was able to dump tanks at the campsite. He was squatting down, facing the RV, when he heard a noise behind him and close by that sounded like a large animal slobbering. There’s Bears In Them There Woods! He spun around and there was a puppy, wanting to know what he was up to.

We departed Dhoon Lodge at 11:25 a.m. It was 54 degrees, hazy and partly sunny. We drove south on the Trans Canada Highway-1, stopping once for gas in the RV. We were headed for the Codroy Valley, our last campground before leaving Thursday on the ferry for Nova Scotia. We got off on Route 406 traveling east for a short distance to the town of Doyles and the Grand Codroy Campground. This is the same place we stayed when we first arrived in Newfoundland on May 16 of this year. We’ll be staying here for two nights.

The drive was pretty, but since it was hazy the sky wasn’t very blue as you’ll see in the picture from our drive. There wasn’t much traffic, but plenty of pick-up trucks and ATVs were parked alongside the highway. It’s hunting season.

We arrived at the campground at 1:10 p.m. We requested Site #11 and it was available. This is an excellent campsite – large, private, and pretty with trees full of birds for the birdwatching kitties. We had lunch, the girls settled in, and we unpacked and set up camp.

The high temperature today was 64 degrees. We have another frost warning for tonight. The campground has been very quiet so far. It is off season now, and they’ll be closing soon.
