ABOUT GRAND CODROY RV/TENT CAMPING: Basically, this was our second stay at this campground. (In 2019 we needed a place to park the RV and spend the night before leaving Newfoundland on the ferry. There were no open campgrounds at that time in this area; it was off season. The owners of this campground said we could stay the night for free outside their locked gates which were located off the highway. It was so nice of them; we vowed to visit them for real some time. We figure this 2019 visit doesn’t count as an actual campground stay.) But we did spend 5 nights in May of 2023 in campsite #8, and these 2 nights in September 2023 in campsite #11.
Grand Codroy RV/Tent Camping is located in Doyles, NL; they are conveniently only 25 minutes from the ferry terminal in Port aux Basques. Doyles is one of 15 communities within an area known as the Grand Codroy Valley, considered to be one of the best birding locations in Newfoundland due to the wetlands and estuaries within the flyover territory of many migratory birds. It is also beautiful, surrounded by mountains on one side and the Ocean on the other side.
The campground offers 93 RV/Camper Van/Trailer campsites with varying degrees of hook-ups and 10 no-service tent campsites. In 2023 they were open May 15 to October 15. Amenities include: water view sites, hook-ups, a dump station, a laundromat (3 washers & 3 dryers), an office, craft shop, fire wood, a hiking trail, restrooms with showers, a “music & friends” building for parties, and picnic tables – some near grills. Everything is well maintained and clean. They do not have strict rules about check in and check out times due to the varying time which the ferry arrives & departs. The first visit, we told them we wanted a quiet, private campsite; they bent over backwards to make sure we had that. Our favorite campsites are #11, 13, 8, and 14. We paid approximately $43 per night including taxes (Canadian currency) for full hook-ups. Our first visit, when we arrived, the 30 amp hook-up wasn’t operating properly, and we were on 15 amps. Rob mentioned it, and they came out and fixed it quickly.
The campground has been family owned and operated since the 1960’s, and they pride themselves on friendly, welcoming and helpful service. They do a wonderful job. We recommend this campground and would definitely stay here again.
