TRAVEL DAY
From: Forked Run State Park, Reedsville, OH.
To: Chestnut Ridge Regional Park, Bruceton Mills, West Virginia (WV).
Day 390 – It was warm and humid when we got up this morning. We are feeling better, not 100%, but less tired. Maybe today we’ll get hungry and eat some regular food. Today we cross into the hills of West Virginia. We took our time packing up again this morning.
We departed Forked Run State Park at 11:25 a.m. It was cloudy and 75 degrees with some wind. Evidently there’s a front moving in. The road traveled along the Ohio River for a short distance, then crossed it, entering WV. The terrain changed soon. It was hilly with winding roads for the rest of the drive. WV is pretty. It would’ve been absolutely gorgeous if it had been earlier, like mid-October, when the leaves probably would have been at peak color. We were in the northwestern part of the State. After the first two hours, we went through several fairly large cities, nestled in the hills.
Not too long after stopping for gas in the RV, we turned off on a very narrow country road, following several campers on our way to Chestnut Ridge Regional Park. We arrived at 2:30 p.m. It was 78 degrees, cloudy and windy; the sky was darkening. We had never been to this campground before. We’ll only be here for one night because plans changed a few days ago. We had site #43 with electric and water hook-ups. There is a dump station.
In late afternoon it began raining. Since it was not forecasted to begin until 2 a.m., we have no idea how long it will go on, but we’re glad for the cooling and drop in humidity. The high today was 83 degrees.
