TRAVEL DAY
From: Chestnut Ridge Regional Park, Bruceton Mills, WV.
To: Cunningham Falls State Park, Manor Area Campground, Thurmont, Maryland (MD).
Day 391 – We both feel much better today. We still relaxed in the morning and took advantage of the extra hour from Daylight Savings. It rained some during the night. The woman from the trailer next to us that was talking non-stop last night when we went to bed was still talking non-stop this morning when we got up. LOL. It was two families that had gotten together for a visit. It must’ve been a LONG time since she had anyone to talk to! Ho ho.
We departed Chestnut Ridge at 11:15 a.m., after dumping tanks and getting fresh water for our next two nights where we won’t have any hook-ups. It was 71 degrees, partly cloudy, and very humid. We continued driving east in northern WV and soon crossed the border into northwestern Maryland. Our entire drive today was in the gorgeous Maryland mountains (Maryland gets much flatter as you approach the eastern shore.) Because we were further east now, some of the fall color was still remaining on the trees. There was some sun shining through the beautiful clouds in the sky until about halfway through the drive when it got dark out. It rained the rest of the way to our destination, Cunningham Falls State Park, in Thurmont, MD.
The drive closer to our campground was on a very narrow and winding two-lane road. By both sides of the road there were rocky streams running downhill with colored fall leaves floating along, really pretty. This State Park is adjacent to the Catoctin Mountain Park.
We arrived at the Manor Area Campground, one of two campgrounds within Cunningham Falls State Park, at 2:10 p.m. It was raining lightly and 73 degrees; the air was heavy with humidity. This is November? Feels like summer.
We had reservations for two nights at site #M24. The narrow campground road was slick with moisture and wet leaves. We had some difficulty backing into our campsite; the wheels of the RV kept sliding on the leaves. But Mr. Fix-It, (a.k.a. ACE RV driver), got us into the site without sliding and hitting either the sign post for the campsite or any of the trees lining the camping pad. Phew.
After setting up camp, the girls settled in promptly. They will really be happy tomorrow morning when they find we are not packing up and leaving again. They just don’t like the one-night stopovers.
