TRAVEL DAY
From: Tyhee Lake Provincial Park, Telkwa, BC.
To: Beaumont Provincial Park, Fort Fraser, BC.
Day 318 – It was 61 degrees and sunny when we got up at 7:15 a.m. By the time we left, most campers had cleared out, leaving the weekend travelers to fill up the campground again. We dumped tanks, then departed at 10:20 a.m.
The scenery was a little different on this leg of our journey. The mountains were now farther off; you could still see them in the distance on all sides of the road. There were less Spruce and Pine trees and more Birches, Oaks, and Aspen. We went through a lot of valleys and saw many large lakes. Instead of the occasional farm, we saw ranches with some cattle – not big Texas-style operations, though. We continued east on Highway 16/Yellowhead Highway. There were very few towns, most of them unincorporated and not cities. As we moved along, it got warmer and more cloudy. It was murky/hazy out, which didn’t do a lot for the pictures of the drive. There were lots of signs saying to watch out for the wildlife; we looked but didn’t see anything.
We arrived at our campground, Beaumont Provincial Park, at 1:10 p.m. It was 82 degrees, muggy and cloudy. We located our campsite, #30, with no hook-ups, and parked the vehicles. The “Bonanza” theme played as we let the girls out. We had lunch first, then set up camp. Our campsite was large and there were some trees around it. We needed the shade as the temperature climbed to the upper 80’s in the late afternoon. We didn’t set up the tent. We were only going to be here for 2 nights.
Lots of campers arrived during the afternoon. Our area of the campground was quiet. There is a large lake on one side of the campground with a huge parking area, indicating that it does get quite busy here, and we’re sure it will be very busy on the weekend. Many of the campers were over by the lake. Fishing and boating are popular in this area.
