A PRETTY DAY.
Day 334 – It was 38 degrees at 5:30 a.m. this morning. Rob woke up and since he was awake anyway, thought it would be a good time to photograph some stars over Mount Robson. He woke me up to tell me he was leaving briefly. Did I want to come along? No, too comfy and warm. He covered me with another blanket and off he went.

Day 333 – It was 42 degrees out this morning, and we ran out of propane in the small portable tank connected to the RV while we were asleep. Woke up this morning, and boy was it cold inside. Time for another trip to Valemount, the closest city to the campground, to get a propane refill. Then all the tanks will be full again.

Day 332 – We relaxed today. It rained lightly on and off throughout the day. The high temperature today was 60 degrees. The sun peeked out in between bits of rain. The only place we went was to the Cafe’ at the Visitor’s Center which has an amazingly good bakery. Mark T., you would love this place. We picked up several items for dessert for the next 3 nights. Most of them were still warm from the oven. Otherwise, we didn’t do much but make egg salad for lunches and read our books in the screened tent when it was warm enough to do so. The girls like it here and were happy to have us at home.
BACK IN BRITISH COLUMBIA.
Day 331 – We had two blog posts almost ready to go when we got here yesterday, but no signal so we couldn’t send them out. We left this morning to try to find a place where we could post them and to try to get propane for the small portable tank for the RV. The closest city to our campground was south and west about 40 minutes, Valemount.

Day 330 – Here’s what happened after we received notice we had to depart Whistlers Campground.
We already had reservations for 10 nights beginning Sunday, September 11 in Banff National Park. The logical thing to do would be to extend that stay by 5 more nights. We checked; that campground was booked. We tried other Banff campgrounds; they were booked. Hmmm, now what. Go backwards. Back to British Columbia, because with most of this campground leaving to travel south, getting a site on the Icefield Parkway wasn’t going to happen.
Oh no, big change of plans.
Day 330 – We got notice this morning around 9:30 a.m. that they were closing our campground. We (and everyone else in this huge campground) have to be out by 11 a.m. tomorrow morning. We thought about it and this is the biggest campground around and it’s almost full. 850 campsites will be emptying – where do they all go? We decided to pack up and leave as quickly as possible, more chances of finding another place to stay in the interim between today and September 11 when we have reservations at a campsite in Banff National Park.

Day 324 – When we woke up this morning it was partly cloudy, but because of the current “heat dome” it’s very hazy in the distance. The mountains around here are so beautiful, haze is not a good thing. Next to us we had an older lady & gentleman in a Class C RV; they only stayed last night. We didn’t see much of them, but we did see a lot of their cat. A gorgeous long-haired cat, obviously being spoiled by its parents was leading the woman around outdoors – the cat was on a leash and it knew it was in charge. Exploring the campground, trying to go into the woods, walking around the RVs and checking them out, this cat was funny – prancing and happy as a clam. When the woman sat outside smoking her cigarette, the kitty was on its leash greeting everyone that went by. Just adorable.

Day 323 – Oh, what a beautiful day it was today! When we got up, it was 59 degrees and sunny. No more rain. It is supposed to be warmer today, though. It’s a travel day. We are headed to McBride, BC, traveling all the way on Highway 16/Yellowhead Highway. We will be in eastern British Columbia, approaching the Province of Alberta.
HEAVY RAIN.
Day 322 – It rained hard all night and this morning. Getting muddier around here. The playground remains empty; it’s been quiet. We went into Prince George this morning and took care of lots of errands and stocking up. On September 1st when we enter Alberta and the National Parks, we aren’t sure about the availability of supplies. We’ll be staying in three different National Park campgrounds for ten nights each. Limited hook-ups; just getting prepared.

Day 321 – It rained all last night and today. Many of the campers left and only a few came into the campground to take their place. The playground was quiet. We doubt if the Lake had much activity either. We made a big batch of Garlic Bread to freeze and pull out pieces when we need them; the RV smelled so good from the baking bread. The girls have their heated pads plugged in again, since the weather has cooled off. They are very happy. We did a lot of reading and relaxing. Tomorrow we have to drive to Prince George and take advantage of a city large enough to have all kinds of stores. Do some stocking up, and Rob will be picking up a new fuel pump and a few other parts for the generator. It briefly reached 60 degrees today, mostly in the 50’s and cold with the rain. The blog posts are piling up again.
