WIND AND SLEEP – BOOM.

Day 56 – We awoke in the middle of the night to wind gusts so heavy they rocked the RV. These trees are scraggly and obviously have gotten accustomed to the wind here, so we didn’t have to worry about trees coming down like in NY and ME. It remained very windy. I felt lousy enough that all I wanted to do was sleep, but the wind kept Rob awake and the girls were scared.

When we got up it was still very windy and we started hearing these BOOMS. It turned out to be artillery practice at Fort Sill, the huge Army Base which lies south of the Refuge. Neither the wind nor the booms bothered me since I spent most of the day sleeping off my Covid booster side effects, which were NOT terrible, but I was achy, very tired, and I felt like I had a cold. Rob went about catching up on some things he wanted to do. I was oblivious to all.

Around noon, in between my long naps, we did a quick pack-up of the RV, went to the dump station and dumped tanks, filled the water tank with fresh water, and changed our campsite back to the one we had the first night. Back in our more protected, private campsite, it didn’t seem as windy. But maybe that’s because the wind was beginning to die down in the afternoon. Tomorrow Rob gets his COVID booster shot.
