SEQUOYAH NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE, DAY 1.

Day 49 – We were up and out before 10 a.m. this morning. The sun was shining without a cloud in the sky – the perfect day to go to a wildlife refuge. We’d been to Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge once before in 2018. It had a great auto tour. This time, they were working on the refuge roads and an entire section was closed. We still managed to spend almost all day there and at the Webber Bottom Unit, a section of the refuge on the other side of the Arkansas River.

TRAVEL DAY: RUSSELLVILLE, ARKANSAS TO GORE, OKLAHOMA.

Day 48 – At 7:45 a.m. this morning, it was 38 degrees and sunny. The White Pelicans were gathered at their normal spot near the sand across the river; an empty barge, pushed by a tug boat, traveled through the lock in a different direction. We packed up to leave, while watching life go on as usual around us.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

TRAVEL DAY: POCAHONTAS, ARKANSAS TO SALESVILLE, ARKANSAS.

Day 45 – It rained most of the night and was still raining when we got up – 54 degrees. Today we’re driving west to Lake Norfork, which is a large lake with a large dam and an Army Corps of Engineer’s (ACE) campground. We’ve found that ACE-designed campgrounds are often not busy, not very expensive, clean, and well-maintained. There aren’t many in the northeast, but we are now entering areas which have them. Salesville is the city closest to the campground at the southern end of the lake.

MINGO NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE, DAY 2.

Day 42 – We left for Mingo this morning for day 2 of our visit. We’re still only one of two campers at the campground. So quiet, so nice. On the way to the Refuge, we stopped to take a picture of the bales of cotton by the side of the road waiting to be picked up for processing. The sun was out and it looked like it would be a nice day.
