MUSHROOMS & TREES.

Day 112 – Rob went out to the cliff this morning in dense fog. A Bald Eagle flew overhead so close he could hear the wings flap, but his hands were holding a tall mug filled with coffee rather than the camera. Oh well. He did get a picture of the trees he cut down, what’s left of them. The rest of them will be chopped to wood chips with the chipper/ shredder this afternoon.

A BUSY DAY.

Day 111 – The high today was 70 degrees, mostly sunny and a little windy. Rob went out to the cliff. It was quiet, even the Sea Gulls were tiptoeing around. We went into town to the hardware store, the trip we tried to make Saturday and found it was Lubec Pirate Day and there was no parking. Rob got all the supplies he’d wanted for making a barrier for the driveway when we’re not here. We also tried to get some Cobscook Bay Scallops, but they were completely sold out. We’ll keep trying, but I have certainly not gotten enough to fill my freezer for New York yet.

HAPPY LABOR DAY.

Day 110 – It’s a rainy holiday here; it rained most of the night, and is foggy & rainy this morning. Rob didn’t go to the ManCliff. Later when the rain stopped, he went outside and did some tree work. It was supposed to rain all day, but it did not. Heavy fog replaced the rain and we couldn’t see the water in the Harbor.

Rob spent most of the day working outside; I worked inside on the computer. The high today was 61 degrees. The girls were happy to have me inside with them.

AFTER THE STORM.

Day 107 – It was a pretty day today, pleasant with a high of 65 degrees and a little windy, but the clouds were big and billowy. We drove to Pembroke this morning to get our last two containers of crab for the season. We’re going to try to fill the rest of our freezer with the wonderful Cobscook Bay Scallops that are caught here. We need a lot of them for the coming year until we can get back up here again. On the drive this morning we saw plenty of rushing water in the streams and big puddles by the roads, trees down, and one of them was lying on downed utility wires. To us, the damage from a full-on hurricane is unimaginable.

REMNANTS OF HURRICANE IDA.

Day 106 – It started raining last night a couple of hours before it was predicted. It was pouring then, and it’s pouring now (10 a.m.). The wind is picking up. We certainly wouldn’t have wanted to be on the Gulf Coast when Hurricane Ida hit! Here we are on the “down east” Maine coast & this storm isn’t pretty; that’s a LONG way from coastal Louisiana. Flooding in Maryland, New Jersey, and New York is what we saw on the news. And we even have a flash flood watch here. Luckily, if there’s a storm surge today, we are safe up on the cliff. An impressive storm!
