REMNANTS OF HURRICANE IDA.
Day 106 – It started raining last night a couple of hours before it was predicted. It was pouring then, and it’s pouring now (10 a.m.). The wind is picking up. We certainly wouldn’t have wanted to be on the Gulf Coast when Hurricane Ida hit! Here we are on the “down east” Maine coast & this storm isn’t pretty; that’s a LONG way from coastal Louisiana. Flooding in Maryland, New Jersey, and New York is what we saw on the news. And we even have a flash flood watch here. Luckily, if there’s a storm surge today, we are safe up on the cliff. An impressive storm!
Rob certainly didn’t go out to the cliff this morning. Anatomy of a Mushroom will have to wait. Today is Crab Day and we usually go to Pembroke to get our crab in the morning. Today it will also have to wait until the rain and wind die down. We still have power, surprisingly. I will update later.
Okay, it’s 2 p.m. The wind has increased; the rain has slowed. The water in the Harbor is very muddy & has turned from its normal calm, beautiful blue/green to a more rapidly-moving mud brown. 56 degrees has been the high so far today. We called Betty’s Crabmeat and asked them to hold our crab order until tomorrow morning. No one wants to be out in this for sure. The UPS guy did not enjoy delivering packages through the puddles.
9 p.m. and it’s almost completely stopped raining although “they” predicted more rain tonight. It’s still windy but it feels like most of the storm has passed over. Again, we are glad we were way up here rather than near the Gulf. We played Monopoly this afternoon and were reading books until I remembered to update the Blog. We did just fine with this storm. You tend to feel more vulnerable in an RV than in a house.
